We are a society of like-minded people enthused by the medium of photography. We accomodate members with varying levels of experience; from the film-obsessed, darkroom regulars and medium-format weilding renegades, to our avid beginners, simply looking to improve their photographic technique. We run a host of events throughout the year to engage and excite, including a series of Photographic Basic
s lectures, Photographic Developing and Printing Workshops, informal Photo-walks through Cape Town and surrounds, Studio Workshops, Documentary Screenings, Critique Evenings, talks from well-known photographers and more! Our Society also offers a full range of services to its members, with a Studio and Darkroom on upper campus, fully-equipped with chemicals for B&W film development, light tables, a range of enlargers for photographic printing, a state of the art flatbed film scanner, as well as professional studio lights and backdrops. We also have a selection of both analogue (film) and digital cameras for members to borrow throughout the year. All these services are availible to book for free during term-time via our UCT Vula page. You don’t need to be a UCT student to join our society nor do you need a camera, you just need enthusiasm and the ambition to learn! If you're not already a member, you can join the UCT Photosoc at any point during the year, either through PeopleSoft online or through the DSA office. All you need to do is give your details to the DSA front desk on level 5 of the Steve Biko building (Above the Cissie Gool Food Court) on upper campus and pay the sign-up fee (R230 for 2020). Our dedicated Com are here to help, so feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
