The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Business School has strengthened its international research profile by appointing Professor Wibke Heidig from Albstadt-Sigmaringen University in Germany as an Honorary Research Professor.
This appointment reflects over a decade of collaboration between Prof Heidig and DUT researchers. Their joint work focuses on globally relevant areas such as food waste, technology acceptance, and the role of artificial intelligence in cross cultural contexts, topics closely tied to sustainability and the evolving digital economy.
The partnership also deepens DUTโs ties with Germanyโs Baden-Wรผrttemberg region, known for innovation and applied research. A key figure in this relationship is Professor Thomas Dobbelstein of the Baden-Wรผrttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW), who also serves as an Honorary Research Professor at DUT and chairs the DUT Business School Board.
According to Professor Pfano Mashau, Director of the DUT Business School, the appointment goes beyond recognition, it represents a strategic move to strengthen global collaboration and knowledge exchange while maintaining local relevance.
In April, Prof Mashau will visit Albstadt-Sigmaringen University and DHBW in Ravensburg to further expand joint research and collaboration opportunities.
Prof Heidigโs appointment is expected to drive new research projects, publications, and academic exchanges, supporting DUTโs mission to foster innovation and produce graduates who can positively impact society.
Overall, this collaboration reinforces the long standing partnership between KwaZulu Natal and Baden Wรผrttemberg, showing how academic cooperation can bridge regions and advance global knowledge.
