The evening embraced a beautiful African theme, with attendees dressed in stunning traditional attire, celebrating the richness of African culture and heritage. The gala dinner also recognised outstanding research, awarding certificates to researchers for their exceptional contributions and achievements.

IEEE ICTAS Conference Day 1

Celebrating a decade of excellence in research, innovation, and collaboration, ICTAS 2026 officially opened on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Umhlanga. Hosted by the Durban University of Technology (DUT) through a partnership between the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics and the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, in collaboration with IEEE, the conference marks a significant milestone as it celebrates its 10th anniversary.

The opening brought together researchers, academics, industry leaders, students and technology experts from across the globe to engage in discussions on Information Communications Technology, Engineering and Digital Finance. Delegates were encouraged to explore how technology and innovation can be leveraged to address societal challenges, promote digital inclusion and contribute to sustainable development.

The 2026 ICT & Society Student Symposium, hosted by the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics and the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) the symposium took place on 13 October 2026 at Mansfield Hall, Ritson Campus, under the theme Ethical and Safety Imperatives for Emerging Technologies.

The symposium brought together academics, industry experts and students to explore the evolving role of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital innovation, entrepreneurship and the future of work. Through expert presentations and panel discussions, participants engaged in conversations on the opportunities, challenges and ethical considerations shaping emerging technologies and their impact on society.

The event also marked ICTAS’s 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of advancing conversations and collaboration at the intersection of ICT and society.
