The Faculty hosted a successful the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA) for presentation of the newly developed cloud-based Data Lakehouse system to enable submission of Sector Education and Training Management Information System (SETMIS) reporting platform, on 6 May 2026 at the Ritson Campus Immersive Centre. The SETMIS platform was developed in partnership with the Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA).

Developed through a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with MICT SETA, the Data Lakehouse system is a digital innovation designed to strengthen data management and reporting across South Africa’s Post-School Education and Training (PSET) sector. The system supports all 21 SETAs by enabling structured quarterly submission of key performance indicator (KPI) data, improving efficiency, transparency, and governance in national reporting processes.

Built on a robust client-server architecture, the platform allows SETAs to upload validated data, generate exception reports, and access consolidated dashboards and historical records. DHET benefits from interactive analytics tools, annual reporting capabilities, trend analysis, and audit logs, significantly reducing reliance on manual spreadsheet-based systems and enhancing evidence-based decision-making.

The Data Lakehouse system, together with the Executive Dean's intellectual contribution and the faculty’s state-of-the-art facilities, reinforced the university’s position as a key partner in advancing digital governance and higher education transformation in South Africa. The Data Lakehouse system will be launched at the MICT SETA 4IR Research Chair Symposium and Expo, to be hosted by Cape Peninsula University of Technology (Cape Town) 27 - 29 May 2026. This year’s symposium will position the Data Lakehouse as flagship project, taking a centre stage, as an innovation system that has already shown its abilities to transform the sector.
