We need to be aware of what is happening around us. We should raise awareness about social problems. In Kenya, students were attacked and killed because of not belonging to a particular religious group. The Garissa University College was attacked by men, who shot and killed 147 people and injured more. We should not take other problems affecting other countries in isolation to problems affecting our own country. Nigeria was attacked a few months ago and Kenya being the latest victim of these attacks. Bear in mind, these are African countries. These attacks are not happening in the middle east, America or Asia. Its right here, with our neighboring countries. We need to speak out about things like these and encourage a sense of unity among ourselves no matter which religion you belong to. I strongly believe there is no need of killing a person or hating someone because of their religious beliefs. As we may serve different Gods, I would believe that there is no God that would encourage the killing of people based on their religious beliefs. To our fellow students in Kenya, families, academics and all those who were affected by the attack, we send our sincere condolences. To show our sympathy and an effort to encourage peace among different religious groups, The UKZN Social Work Department has encouraged its academics and students to wear black clothes this coming Thursday. To all other students on campus, other campuses and Institutions. Please wear black clothes on Thursday to show that we are one with those who loss their sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, relatives and friends in this attack, we encourage peace and a society free from violence
