Faces Behind The Impact.

Dr Constance Khupe is an Academic Advisor and Senior Lecturer in the Office of Student Success, where she is committed to advancing student achievement, transformative learning, and inclusive educational practices.

Her work focuses on academic advising, student success, and decolonial research, with a strong commitment to supporting students from underrepresented communities. As a first‑in‑family graduate herself, she brings both personal insight and professional expertise to creating pathways that enable students to thrive throughout their academic journeys.

A recipient of the 2022 Jack Mezirow Living Theory of Transformative Learning Award, Dr Khupe is also recognized for developing the Wits Success Prints Crash Course board game, an innovative initiative that promotes game‑based learning in academic advising. Through research, teaching, and collaboration, she continues to champion student development and meaningful educational transformation.

Dr Michael Klipin is an Honorary Consultant in the Department of Surgery and Head of the Division of Biomedical Informatics and Translational Sciences within the Wits Health Consortium.

His work sits at the intersection of healthcare, research, and technology, supporting the development of secure and efficient electronic data collection systems for clinical and research environments. Under his leadership, the Faculty of Health Sciences has become one of the largest REDCap consortium members globally, helping researchers manage data while maintaining the highest standards of privacy, security, and governance.

Through innovation, collaboration, and capacity building, Dr Klipin and his team continue to strengthen the digital infrastructure that underpins world‑class research and improves healthcare outcomes.

Faces Behind The Impact.

Dr Jarrod Zamparini is a Specialist Physician and Lecturer whose work is helping to transform care for pregnant women with medical conditions.

As founder and head of the Obstetric Internal Medicine Unit at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, he established the first service of its kind in Africa, bringing together physicians and obstetricians to improve outcomes for women with complex medical disorders during pregnancy.

His research bridges Internal Medicine and Obstetrics, focusing on medical conditions in pregnancy, maternal mortality, and postgraduate education. Through clinical innovation, research, and leadership, Dr Zamparini continues to advance a growing field that is improving maternal healthcare across South Africa and beyond.

A new chapter for postgraduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

On the 14th of October 2026, the Postgraduate and Academic Support Office officially opened the Faculty's new Postgraduate Hub, a dedicated space designed to support postgraduate students throughout their academic journey.

More than just a study area, the PG Hub aims to foster collaboration, connection, innovation and wellbeing, providing students with a space to work, exchange ideas and build a vibrant postgraduate community.

Here's to creating knowledge, building networks, and shaping the future of health sciences research.
