Ending Deaf Awareness Month on a high note! 🎶

As we close off Deaf Awareness Month, we celebrate the beauty of diversity, inclusion, and self-expression through South African Sign Language.

This special performance of "True Colours" by the learners of St Vincent's School for the Deaf shines a spotlight on the talents, creativity, and resilience of Deaf youth. Through sign, movement, and visual expression, they remind us that music is not only heard, but also seen, felt, and shared.

Thank you to our learners for inspiring us to embrace our true colours and for helping us celebrate Deaf culture, language, and identity.

In 1982, disability activist Kathy Jagoe challenged a campus accessibility committee because it was made up entirely of able-bodied people. Her advocacy led to disabled representatives being appointed to the committee, helping to shape disability access at Wits for decades to come.
