The College of Business and Economics (CBE) joined the first day of UJ STEAM, a dynamic three-day initiative taking place from 26–28 August 2026, providing a platform to showcase innovation, creativity, technology and ideas shaping the future.

CBE showcased a Farming AI Assistant designed to help farmers make informed decisions about their crops. The innovative solution can assist with plant disease detection, yield prediction, and facilitating communication between farmers and agronomists, helping to support smarter and more efficient farming practices.

As we continue to celebrate Women’s Month, the College of Business and Economics proudly congratulates Dr. Marise Mouton on her recent graduation with a PhD in Accounting, specializing in Finance.

Her doctoral research, titled “A Holistic Approach to Model Value-Relevant Capital Structure,” provides valuable insights into how businesses can develop sustainable, value-creating financing strategies by viewing capital structure as a complex adaptive system.

Her findings offer practical, evidence-based guidance to help businesses navigate economic uncertainty, strengthen long-term resilience, and enhance shareholder value through informed financing decisions.
