CPGRU Showcases Research Excellence at the Southern African Hypertension Society Biennial Congress 2026
The CPGRU is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its staff and students at the Southern African Hypertension Society Congress held in Sandton from the 14-16 August 2026. The congress, themed “A Life Course Perspective on Hypertension”, provided an excellent platform to showcase the unit’s research excellence and growing impact in cardiovascular and population health research.
The CPGRU was well represented with distinction. Professor Angela Woodiwiss and Prof Vernice Peterson delivered plenary presentations, sharing their expertise and leadership in the cardiovascular field. Dr Andrea Kolkenbeck-Ruh presented some of the first findings from the Multi-Ethnic Early Vascular Ageing (MEEVA) Study, contributing valuable insights to the ongoing research in hypertension and cardiovascular health. Numerous postgraduate students (Mosa Mahamane, Makabongwe S'kholiwe Mazibuko, Manishka Reddy, Ngwanamadima Lucky Mapheto, Sinovuyo Halana, and Thembelihle Myeza) gave presentations on work undertaken for their higher degrees and research projects.
We are especially proud to congratulate Dr Andrea Kolkenbeck Ruh (photo on left) on receiving the YK Seedat award for best oral presentation by an emerging researcher, and Mr Sinovuyo Halana (photo on right) on receiving the Krisela Steyn award for best poster presentation. Congratulations to all who participated and contributed to this remarkable showcase of academic excellence. Their achievements reflect the strength, innovation, and dedication of the CPGRU research community.
