Last week the UJ Geology Honours class visited Impala's Rustenburg Region Exploration Office to learn the ins and outs of platinum exploration in the world-famous Bushveld Complex, as part of their Economic Geology and Exploration Management module. Connecting the theory with the real-world application is an essential part of the training for the next generation of geoscientists!

A big thank you to our excellent hosts at Implats for taking us through the process from drilling to core logging to sampling, and sharing their insights and experience with the students.

Young and old enjoyed travelling back through time with the fantastic displays in the Geological Garden - with a geologist on hand to answer all the burning questions.
