Firma Design

Firma Design Human-centered, accountable, sustainable and socially-oriented design practices. Firma was established in 2015.

Firma is based on the naturally productive dynamic that exists between practice, theory and education. We believe that design is about more than the designed object and industrial thinking. We feel that design should be humanistic, not just for end-users, but society at large; that design, whether we acknowledge it or not, always exists as a part of social reality. We also believe that open access

and the sharing of knowledge moves us all forward. The directors and founders, Jason Hobbs and Terence Fenn, have been collaborating since 2008. Their design work applies human-centered methods to addressing complex problems using frameworks and models they have jointly developed. They both teach in the design department at the University of Johannesburg and have published and presented their joint academic work extensively both locally and internationally.
