We the people of Langa Township hereby request your support for a petition to have Bennie Street, west of Bhunga Street changed to Phillip Kgosana Crescent to honour him for the contribution he has made in the struggle for liberation of South Africa and the impact he has had on the people of Cape Town and Langa Township in particular. Philip Kgosana was born in 1936 in Makapanstad in Limpopo. Whil

st studying for a Commerce degree at the University of Cape Town, on the 30 March 1960, as a 23 year old, he led a March of more than 30 000 people from Langa to Cape Town. Right up to this day the people of Langa Township continue to be inspired by his courage and devotion to the struggle for freedom that is why we want to remember him by naming the Bennie street west of Bhunga Street to Phillip Kgosana Crescent. On 30 March 2016, at the age of 79, Kgosana retraced the steps the historic march he led in 1960. He walked the 12 km from Langa to Cape Town at the head of a small procession, which protested against the government for not doing enough to take care of South Africa's poorest members.
