The Rural Development and Innovation Hub (RDIH) has been facilitating a programme called Digital Fluency from April 2022 to November 2022, the programme consists of tailor-made training workshops and practical fieldwork, which was carried out by the University of Limpopo Student Volunteers (UL). The UL student volunteers went to different schools to work with the grade 12s and later the grade 11s joined in after expressing their interest in the programme. The Digital Fluency programme was focused on assisting high school learners with technical writing skills, navigating the internet, and with university and bursary applications.

WHAT A GREAT EVENT WE HAD TODAY (03 NOVEMBER 2022) – EVALUATION OF 3rd YEAR LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (LED) STUDENTS. The Rural Development and Innovation Hub (RDIH) had a very special face to face event today. We evaluated our of 3rd year Local Economic Development (LED) students’ engagement placements with farmers. Farmers were part of the evaluation process and we expressed our appreciation for their ongoing support of the University’s research and student learning activities. We value their time and the energy they spent in providing learning opportunities to our 2022, 3rd year Agricultural students. As part of their studies, students had to do a LED assessment and develop a LED intervention strategy specific to farms. We expected students to do these assessments and plan an intervention strategy in consultation and in participation with farmers. In acknowledgement of farmer support services to our students, we provided them with a certificates acknowledging their contribution to student learning for 2022.

READ WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAID ABOUT LAST YEAR'S PROGRAMME
• I would encourage them to take part in the program, … as they will develop skills which they will take into their future careers and lives… I have gained confidence and my communication skills have been increased, I am aspired to further learn how to communicate well with people
• The programme assists in boosting the presentation skills, necessary for presenting the proposal and research progress to the relevant people. I wish that I got the training at the beginning of my postgraduate studies but glad that I got the training before entering the workspace… The students should be equipped with mobile data to be able to recruit the participants and be able to share the mobile data with the participants… Science communication stood out for as I always had problems explaining concepts to people…I have learnt paramount information on the dos and don’ts of science communication to be able to convey the message to an array of audience...
• I enjoyed the interactive learning, which made finding the work or activities easier…. The workshop guides were having good-structured information, and relevant for me
