Opportunities for young people to study overseas

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Wi***es Mchunu has hailed the diplomatic community for working with Provincial Government to create opportunities for young people to study overseas.

This evening, hundreds of young people are attending the launch of the website focusing on international youth scholarship programme.

http://www.kznyis.gov.za/

The event which is currently underway at the Sharks Board, Umhlanga is attended by representatives from the African Renaissance Trust, Consular Generals, Ambassadors and Academics from a number of tertiary institutions.

Mchunu remarked: “Having said that, our vision as the provincial government is for all young people to grow up safe and healthy. More importantly we want the young people of our province to have access to education including access to higher education in order to achieve socio-economic transformation thus eliminating poverty, unemployment and inequality.”

“As we officially launch this international youth scholarship programme, we must remember the words of Tata Madiba. Delivering his Youth Day speech in 1995 in eZakheni Township in Ladysmith, Tata Madiba said:

‘This generation of youth stands at the border-line between the past of oppression and repression, and the future of prosperity, peace and harmony.’

“These words are nails on a chalkboard. The most important lesson that must we draw from these words is that Tata Nelson Mandela believed in young people.”

“He neither condemned them nor regarded them as a burden on society. Instead he viewed young people as valuable assets and successors upon whom a country depends for the continuity of development.”

“Indeed, youth is an important life stage in human development. It covers a wide age range. With young people moving through adolescence on their way to becoming independent adults. It is a significant period of development—physically, psychologically, emotionally and socially.”

URGENT communique 2nd October

To all students and staff DUT Durban and Midlands Centres

Dear students and colleagues

A fake and falsified document has been circulated online by criminals who want to create chaos and spread rumours and propaganda within the Durban University of Technology. The writer/s of this fake letter, which is dated 1 October 2016, have illegally used the name of Dr John Volmink, whose term as DUT interim Vice-Chancellor and Principal expired on Friday, 30 October 2016, in the hope of convincing you that the letter is truthful.

In the letter dated Saturday, 1 October, the authors claim that the Durban University of Technology has shut down all activities. This is false. Contrary to the lies contained in the letter, classes at DUT are resuming tomorrow (Monday, 3 October 2016).

The authors of the letter also lie about students having to re-register. All registered students do not need to re-register.

Furthermore, they falsely inform you that the University is forcing students out of residence. This is also false.

Students, please note that the writer/s of this counterfeit letter do not have your best interests at heart. Their only intention is to further compromise your education.

All legal communication from DUT will be distributed to you on the University's website, DUT4life and Pinboard. The University will also post updates on its official DUT Facebook and twitter pages. So, we urge you to double-check all official communiques from DUT on two or more platforms. If in doubt, please contact your department for clarity.

I urge you to be alert during this challenging time. Our exam season is almost upon us and it is a vital time for all students and staff.

Sincerely,
Prof Theo Andrew
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Operations (Acting)
