Sunshine Corner Nursery school is a Christian based nursery school offering children well-balanced early childhood Education through constructive play. Based at the Mount Horeb Presbyterian church, New School optimized for great Fun and Learning. Sunshine Corner is run with Christian Values and Morals and children grow in self-esteem through unconditional respect and nurturing. We encourage unders

tanding through young questioning minds. Our Class will consist of a mixed age group, fostering a community spirit and ensuring that the needs of every child are met. We equip the children in our care with skills, to prepare them for their journey into formal education, by building their confidence to make it in the outside world. We instil this by:

Teaching through Love. Letting children blossom naturally the way God intended. Creating a Home from home-happy place. Providing a creative warm environment. At Sunshine corner each child is taught in group activities as well as individual learning. Each child is unique and needs individual methods specific for them to unlock their own potential. Each child is assessed for what method works the best for them in terms of retaining information. Once the child has unlocked their learning it is amazing to watch them learn something each day. All my children love learning! Sunshine Corner Children are taught a balance in learning, not only will they be ready for Grade R at School, they will be emotionally capable. Sunshine Corner Children are taught coping skills and how to control emotions and express them, in turn children around them are taught how to treat and understand each other’s emotions. I offer a number of fun activities and games, unique to Sunshine Corner Nursery school, to help the children learn patience, expressing their emotions, handling anger, sharing and understanding of others, which builds their self-esteem and confidence. This is very helpful for children learning a second language, as for many this is there first time learning a new language in a new environment, so helping them first to express their emotions, they quickly feel more relaxed and comfortable to learn in a second language at school, while at home, keeping their first language and culture intact. I use the WBT (whole brain teaching method) which enables each child to:
Gather information – understand it – and retain it in their memory. By using this method in the first 4 months the children in my care learnt

•Colours:
Black, white, red, green, orange, brown, blue, yellow, purple, pink, grey.
•Shapes:
Square, circle, triangle, rectangle, diamond, heart, oval –some have gone on to add cylinder, cresent, pentagon, hexagon, octagon.
•Learnt to count confidently to 10 and some write out the numbers.
•They learnt how to complete a 28 piece puzzle (which they only need to be able to complete at the end of Grade R) all of my Children are able to do 40+ puzzles.
•They learnt the first letters of their names as well as their friends. They can now confidently recognize 10 letters plus and some can even write them. We are only a half day school from 7:00 to 12:30 (pick-up before 1) this time is spent mostly learning through free play activities and circle time. The children by choice have decided on 1 ½ hours to eat their snack and to rather come back inside to do more activities. This is because there is so much to do in the classroom and the children like to fit in last minute activities before they go home. My children are always happy to be at school and love learning, because they are constantly celebrated and praised. They get a reaction for every action. We also do a 14 day equipment/toy rotation; therefore no children are ever board. Our days are split into:
• Magic Monday: We unlock a new lesson, which will give way to more fun. We also do Maths world and news from our weekends.
• Tinkering Tuesday: Time for creating and experimenting and understand our new lesson. Experiments with writing, paint, building in free play.
• Workout Wednesday: We work out our minds and bodies. We love workout Wednesday as Juggle bugs come and give us exciting new exercise’s Gross/fine development and when it’s over we work in our workbooks (brain/fine development)
• Thinking Thursday: We test our cans…we don’t believe in “cant” so thinking Thursdays we challenge ourselves to write, count build bigger puzzles draw different types of objects, paint in the lines. So much more. (Thursdays are set up when the children arrive.)
• Fun day Friday: fun fun fun. Imagination day some Fridays our teacher paints our faces for a fun face Friday. We choose whatever we want to do or play with on Friday. When the weather is sunny we explore our environment to find evidence of what we have learnt about. We also had a small tomato patch which we planted, nurtured and ate the tomatoes, after the children watched them grow. We are going to start a new veggie patch for January. If you would like to come and visit the school and see what we do, please give me a call.
