Greetings to lovers, friends, Supporters, volunteers and members.

Sasco calls on students that are registered in the North Campus to come and elect their preferred individuals that would represent them in the Upcoming SRC Elections.

You might have seen the state of our Campus has been deteriorating from better to worse, as if we don't have elected individuals that should address these issues.

Now it's your opportunity to come and elect your preferred candidate that you will hold accountable.
Your voice counts.

SRC NORTH CAMPUS PREMIER’S COUNCIL
Greetings North Campus students we trust that you are safe and keeping well during these trying times.. The premier's council would like to update on the following

FINANCIAL AID

Since the beginning of the lockdown, students continued receiving their allowances. We also note that there are a few students who are unable to access their allowances because their Inteli cards are blocked, some of them appealed at financial aid and arrangements have been made with NSFAS with regards to the verification of these appeals. Students will therefore receive communication via sms or email in due course.

The appeals committee reported back to campus on the 1st of June to resume with the processing of appeals as they were interrupted by the national lockdown as announced by the President earlier this year. Students will receive communication as soon as the process is complete.

Students who lost their inteli cards or got approved for funding during the lockdown period may use the following USSD to access their allowances *120*44431*Student number*Pin #. This will give you a voucher number that is valid for 5 minutes. If you forgot you pin or your inteli card is giving you problems you contact the Intelimali call center at 087 2300 161.

The financial aid sent a list of all the students affected by the N+2 rule to NSFAS, arrangements are being made and outcomes will be communicated back to financial aid in due course.

RETURN TO CAMPUS

Following the statement released by the Minister of Higher education;

• In the faculty of health sciences we have 1 058 students that are expected return back on campus starting from the 17th of June. However, we are still waiting for the EBEIT faculty to issue sms or emails to students that are also expected to return and their respective return dates.

• The university must re-open applications for laptops as many students couldn’t apply for various reasons.

• Detailed study guides must be made available to students.

• Due dates must be flexible and not clustered.

• Students must be allowed to fetch their belongings.

We encourage all returning students to adhere to the Covid-19 rules and regulations as stipulated by the university. We wish all our students a safe travel during this time and those that are still at home to be patient and continue to work hard.

We wish you all the best in your studies. Happy youth day

SRC Update
15 March 2020

The SRC indeed this morning sat in the Special ECS meeting. As we have committed to ensure the university puts the best interest of students first both academically and in health the University has agreed to suspend the academic programme effectively from today till the end of the Recess and inlight that Recess will be starting. To be clear All Tests and Assignments are suspended, learning as well is suspended.
The dangers of this virus must be understood as not just free time but to be cautious. Students will be communicated with at the end of recess on the academic recovery plan International and National Travel has been suspended as well at the institution.

On Graduation the meeting agreed not to cancel the ceremony but to postpone for later as spring break. However those that will be in need of their certificates will be assisted where the University will further communicate how this will be done through the Registrars office.

As the SRC we think its important for the University to have comprehensive plan for prevention and containment that will be in operation when we resuming classes. Screening and sanitizing at our main entrances will be key, we will need the department of Health to help with some of these, otherwise it will be chaos if we can have breakout now without proper measures in place and lets not wait for a breakout. We are monitoring the national discourse and we will communicate if there's any change.

SASCO POST SHUTDOWN STATEMENT
For Immediate release
17 February 2019

The South African Students Congress took a conscience decision to shut down operations of the university. The Shutdown was informed by the failed engagements with university management over registration issues, accommodation, allowances and other student support services. SASCO will always be on the side of the students from poor and working class in an oppressive system.
The organisation had noted that the registration exemption concession had a number of gaps and where gaps were not there, decisions were not actioned by the relevant departments. Post graduate students were still lingering outside the system and without accommodation. The University had not heeded to some of the decisions by Minister of Higher Education and Training after the SAUS national shutdown.

SASCO further mandated the SRC to use the opportunity to engage the university on the issues we raised with them. The organisation has received a comprehensive report back from the SRC after their meeting. The report on the issues is positive but SASCO is surprised at the lip service of the university. The organisation will be on their heels to ensure all comes into light.

SASCO has noted that:
Registration and Financial Aid:
• 17 036 students had been granted funding statuses by financial aid this figure includes students who might have decided to take up spaces in other Universities.
• 11 557 allowances had been paid to NSFAS-funded students.

• The University has agreed in starting the process of building a Student Centre for off campus students this commitment includes looking at possible avenues such as the use of the NMB Stadium.
• The University has agreed on the working group starting the process of shuttle additions.

We also want to ensure students who do not have rooms that tomorrow before end of the day, they will have a place to sleep.

We furthermore want to warn the University that by Wednesday if these demands are not implemented we will have a mother of shutdowns and this time we won't even give them a chance to engage students, we will be closely monitoring the implementation of these demands. Until the last student is registered we will not rest.

Lastly the SASCO has mandated the SRCto bring back the and we will assist to fundraise towards student challenges. Furthermore, the SASCO-LED SRC commits a portion of the SRC budget towards the Fund and have put out a challenge to the VC to double the amount pledged by the SRC. The MyMandelaFund will also reach beyond the University as we look to play a criticle role towards student’s challenges.
