The research undertaken by the Chair focuses on the following three areas:
(1) South Africa and the law of the sea, including the legal regime governing the South African continental shelf and the exploitation of its resources; (2) Development in Africa and the law of the sea, including relevant indigenous law – research at international and comparative level on: (i) the East coast of Africa and

the Indian Ocean; (ii)the West coast of Africa and the Atlantic Ocean; (iii) the Southern Ocean and Antarctica; (3)The legal aspects of marine tourism.

Applications are hereby invited for the postdoc full-time position available under the Chair as from the 1st of January 2019 until the 31st of December 2019.

To apply, please submit, to [email protected] and not later than Friday the 9th of November, your CV as well as a description of your research plan, which must take into account that: (1) the expected target for academic members of staff on research leave for a whole year is 4 outputs submitted for publication in accredited journals (or their equivalent); and (2) preference will be given to the candidate who can best assist the Chair in the bilingual (English/French) book project on Africa and the law of the sea.

Please note that, although this is a full-time position, it will not be required that the successful candidate be based in Port Elizabeth.

Please also note that this is not a temporary/permanent academic position at the University and that the position does not carry any staffing benefits or any entitlement to one or more annual renewals.
