On Friday, the 15th of May 2026, The School of IT hosted a HOD-Led Wellness walk with students.

This initiative brought together academic leadership and students outside of the classroom, creating space for connection, conversation, and well-being. Walking side by side, we were reminded of the importance of balance, mental health, and building a supportive community within our school.

The scenic trail provided the perfect backdrop for reflection and engagement, reinforcing that wellness is a shared responsibility. Events like these highlight the value of collaboration and the positive impact it has on both personal and academic growth.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and made this day a success. Here's to many more moments that bring us together in support of health, unity, and student well-being πŸ’™.

πŸš€ Engineering the Future | Inaugural Postgraduate Research Symposium

On 15 May 2026, the School of Engineering at Nelson Mandela University hosted its inaugural Postgraduate Research Symposium at the North Campus Conference Centre β€” bringing together postgraduate students, academics, alumni, and industry leaders in a dynamic showcase of engineering innovation and research excellence.

The symposium created a platform for masters and doctoral candidates to present impactful research across various engineering disciplines, engaging directly with academics and industry representatives from organisations including Jendamark, Haslop and Mason, AutoX, and Eskom.

Opening the event, Dr Kumeshan Reddy, Chairperson of the School of Engineering Postgraduate Studies Committee, highlighted the importance of connecting academic research with real-world industry application.

Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the Built Environment and Technology, Prof Sudesh Rathilal, encouraged delegates to pursue research that drives meaningful impact within society and industry.

More than a research event, the symposium fostered collaboration, critical engagement, professional networking, and the development of future-focused engineering solutions.

Following the success of this inaugural event, the School of Engineering aims to establish the symposium as a flagship annual platform celebrating postgraduate research and innovation.
