Mandela University’s digital tribute to its namesake

“Courage is not the absence of fear, it is inspiring others to move beyond it.”

These words by Nelson Mandela are the inspiration behind a series of digital tributes to Nelson Mandela University’s namesake during Mandela Month in these unprecedented times triggered by the coronavirus pandemic. The online arts packages showcasing the talents of students, staff and alumni, seek to shed light on the different phases of Mandela’s life through digital storytelling.

“It should enable viewers to reflect – especially in these times – on all aspects of his life and hopefully inspire us to move beyond COVID-19 because, and to quote Madiba, ‘it is in your hands’,” says Arts, Culture and Heritage Deputy-Director Ryan Pillay.

The package includes the digital storytelling phases in the life of Nelson Mandela, including sound bites from the iconic statesman – watch it on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsXkOxrjeBs
