If this sounds like a dream to you I guess we are on the same page, excuse the pun. For some years now I have been dreaming about creating a place where our little ones can play with friends, have fun and learn tons of things almost without knowing that they are learning. In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives running around from pillar to post we have forgotten about the importance and value
of spending “playing time” with our kids. Although my dream started to take shape over the past 9 years whilst teaching other people’s kids, the value of spending “playing time” with kids only struck a cord when I became an “instant” mother of a 5 year old. Getting to know her and her getting to know me was made easier when we were drawing, painting, playing outside on the jungle gym or simply reading a book and yes I will lie if I said I did not enjoy getting to know Barbie again, but more about this at a later stage.. Some years after this I was blessed with giving birth to our baby boy and brother to our Hannah and once again I, over the time since then, could see how “getting my hands dirty” has been playing a significant role in his early childhood development. Armed with the practical and theoretical knowledge as a teacher and educator and with my passion for being a mother of two there was no stopping me in establishing my own school that will allow me to share my learning with both parent and child and thereby ensure that we raise our youngsters in an holistic and somewhat trusted traditional fashion. Preparing a space was no easy task and a quick fix was not an option. So, with the help of a “friend” we started renovating a space perfect to start growing my dream. With new crisp white window frames, soft stone coloured walls, exposed wooden trusses and wooden floors my dream space is slowly but surely starting to take shape and developing a personality of its own. Looking out the big window into the garden, I can already see the kids playing in the sand, building the beautiful princess her castle while the handsome prince saves her from the dragon, or aspiring architects designing buildings and houses so the race car driver can park his car in a perfectly designed garage. While all this is happening a young artist is painting a scene of her beautiful herb and vegetable garden she planted and grew herself, a young chef tries out a new cookie recipe and a photographer, testing out a camera, capturing some of the most beautiful learning moments…
