Hey Alums

A big thank you to Mr Kgalabi JK Phale for expertly facilitating the launch of the City of Tshwane / TUT Alumni Forum earlier today.

The event brought together TUT Alumni working within the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality to strengthen relationships, share ideas, and explore meaningful ways alumni can contribute to the continued success of their alma mater.

Here’s to building stronger connections and Entrepreneuring the Future Together!

The City of Tshwane TUT Alumni Forum was launched to strengthen the relationship between TUT, its alumni and the City of Tshwane, while creating a platform for alumni to remain connected and contribute to the university and the broader community. The forum aims to improve alumni expertise, professional networks and experience to support current students and graduates through mentorship, career opportunities, entrepreneurship, work integrated learning and further study. It also provides a space for alumni to share ideas and contribute to the university’s development.

During the forum, speakers highlighted the importance of collaboration, giving back and turning knowledge into opportunities. Alumni were encouraged to use their skills, networks and resources to support the next generation, while the City called for stronger partnerships with TUT in addressing challenges such as infrastructure, energy, innovation and economic development. The event also celebrated TUT alumni and their potential to contribute to the future of both the university and the City of Tshwane.

City of Tshwane TUT Alumni Forum “Turning knowledge into impact.”

TUT alumnus, SRC President and Divisional Head: Renewable and Energy Business, Mr Tom Mutshidza, called on TUT alumni to use their expertise, research and innovation to help address the challenges facing the City of Tshwane.

He highlighted opportunities for collaboration in infrastructure, energy, local manufacturing and sustainable development, encouraging alumni to work with TUT and the City to turn knowledge into practical solutions that create meaningful impact in communities.

“Together, we can innovate, collaborate and build a more sustainable future for Tshwane.”

“Giving back means paying opportunity forward.”

Alumni Fund Ambassador Zilke Mapula Heyns called on TUT alumni to play an active role in supporting students facing financial challenges.

She reminded alumni that giving back goes beyond financial contributions. It is also about mentoring, sharing knowledge, creating opportunities and opening doors through professional networks.

As she beautifully put it: “Giving back is not about repaying a debt. It is about paying an opportunity forward.”

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of current students and help shape the next generation of TUT graduatess.

Executive Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya reminded TUT alumni of the power of strong networks, shared knowledge and collective action in creating opportunities for graduates, entrepreneurs and communities.

She encouraged alumni to mentor students, open doors, share expertise, create opportunities and contribute to solutions that support economic growth and strengthen the City of Tshwane.

As TUT launches this important alumni forum, the call is clear: let’s connect, create and contribute towards building a stronger, more inclusive and prosperous Tshwane.
