Celebrating our Sociology graduates 🎓 ✨

Yesterday, the Department of Sociology hosted a gathering to celebrate their class of 2025. We are incredibly proud of our undergraduate, honours and masters students for their achievements and we look forward to witnessing the impact that they will continue to make in their communities.

On this Africa Day, we reflect on the 2026 theme: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”

As we celebrate the richness, resilience and progress of our continent, we are reminded that access to clean water and safe sanitation is not only a basic human right, but essential to building healthy, sustainable and thriving African communities for generations to come. 🌍💧

Behind every PhD is a story of sacrifice, resilience and impact. Today, the Faculty of Humanities celebrated the journey of our doctoral graduates at a special meet meet-and-greet hosted by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanitjes, Professor Kevin Thomas.

Joined by Heads of Department, supervisors, families and loved ones, the gathering recognised not only the achievements of obtaining the highest academic qualification, but also the far-reaching impact of the research produced by graduates. From shaping critical conversations to contributing solutions that respond to societal challenges, a PhD at UP represents scholarship that matters.

Congratulations to all our Phd Graduates on this exceptional milestone✨🎓

A new international partnership is strengthening collaboration in social work and the humanities. The University of Pretoria has formalised a multilateral agreement with The Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS), the BSSS Institute of Advanced Studies (BSSS-IAS), and the St Paul Institute of Professional Studies (SPIPS) to advance globally connected, practice-driven scholarship.

Coordinated by the Department of Social Work, the partnership strengthens Global South academic networks and creates meaningful opportunities for students and staff to engage across diverse institutional and cultural contexts.

Celebrating excellence and inspiring futures ✨

The Faculty of Humanities had the incredible opportunity to engage with some of the brightest Grade 11 top achievers at this year’s Top Achievers function. From insightful presentations to vibrant music performances, the programme was nothing short of dynamic and inspiring.

We were especially honoured to have our Dean join us, sharing valuable insights about our programmes and connecting with learners at our exhibition table as they explored their passions and future paths.

Here’s to nurturing potential, sparking curiosity, and shaping the leaders of tomorrow 🎓

For World Social Work Day, we asked three of our students to reflect on this year’s theme, “Uniting a Divided Society.” 🤝🌍

From embracing our uniqueness to celebrating the resilience of social workers, their voices remind us of the power of unity and compassion in building stronger communities.

As we commemorate Human Rights Day, we honour the legacy of the Sharpeville Massacre and reflect on 30 years of the Bill of Rights. This year’s theme, “Making Human Dignity Real,” calls on us to move beyond reflection and actively advance dignity, equality, and justice in everyday life.
At the Faculty of Humanities, as we continue to engage, question, and contribute to a more inclusive society.
