SASCO Calls for Minister of Higher Education To Fire NSFAS
board.
06- 08- 2018
The South African Students' Congress(SASCO) calls for the
Minister of Higher Education To Fire NSFAS board. It is our
considered view that NSFAS has failed the poor and the toiling
masses of our students. Many students accross all institutions
(universities and worse in the TVET sector) to this very day
remain without any form of allowance.
SASCO understands that countless number of students do not
appear on the NSFAS list; their applications are not complete,
and some of whom do not know whether they have been
funded or not, some students are facing eviction from their
private accommodation. The halt of applications, and rapid
compounding failure to disburse allowances timeously is
indicative of the lack of ability to demonstrate the managerial
and technical skills requisitely required. Accordingly, it is
evident that this is another sign of poor administration of
funds which has been for a protracted time without any
prospect for any form of remediation.
The apparent yet pervasive and pestering effects of a lack of
synchronized, synthesized, meticulously integrated systems
and systemic processing between the NSFAS and the
institutions of higher learning and training has had, and will in
future plunge the country into a catastrophic and irreversible
nightmare. The irrefutable and undeniable inability of the
incumbent to appropriately supervise and monitor the NSFAS
undertakings, and the almost visible absence of a critical
quality to project and focus problems prior, in order to mitigate
possible crisis; is further representative and indicative of a
lack of working class interests at heart.
We believe that this calculated move not only will bring a
possible cathartic effect to the struggling andoppressed
students, but the dissolution and the removal will aid us into a
fresh and vibrant perspective which will resuscitate and
revitalise the structure appropriately implementing Free
Education to its logical conclusion.
Accordingly; in light of the current crisis we give NSFAS until
Friday, 10 August 2018 to disburse student allowances failing
which, we will have no option other than taking it to the
streets.

REPORT REGARDING STUDENTS ALLOWANCES

This report serve to give updates on students allowances since 70% of the allocations has been processed from last week Thursday.

Students that was paid last week were students that are regarded as type 1 & type 2;these students are new & returning students that have signed their SoP's

We are aware that there are few students that are still not paid yet they fall under these types, those students should be paid asap not later than end of holidays.

There are also students that are regarded as type 3.1 & 3.2 those students are new and returning students that have not signed their SoP's and those students are not yet paid due to the instructions from the DHET as much as the college is ready to pay for those students but a green light must be given by the department first so it can be accountable for paying that money back to the college.

The CSRC&LSRC is busy engaging with the central management that SoP must not hinder a student from receiving an allowance

Type 4 & type 5 are regarded as new and returning students that are not funded and don't qualify for an allowance

Type 6 are students that did not pass the data review process due to invalid ID numbers, missing fields etc, those students are gonna be dealt with after allocations are through.

There are students that are provisionally funded but they don't appear in the DHET list, the financial officer has sent a spreadsheet to DHET that confirms that a student is indeed funded

The money that is paid through sbux is for food allowance and for travel allowance and you can not exchange food voucher into cash but you can exchange travel allowance into cash;the money that is paid by the college is only for accommodation and is paid through a bank account & is paid as per the claim a student submitted in the application

These monies paid by sbux and the college are for 3 months & the other outstanding months are going to be paid after the first allocation is complete.

Students, please don't be confused about the money that came into your accounts as R6000 then it was reduced to R2250 in the morning, that money is still going to be paid back as I have said that payments are done in trimesters.

We know that 2017 payments were supposed to be settled before the 2018 allocation but if you have not received your 2017 allowance please hang in there your payment shall come through anytime

Students we are pleading with you that you stop making negative comments and insulting your leadership at campus level on social media, those people that you voted for are working very hard ensuring that you all receive what belongs to you.

STRUGGLE CONTINUES

Yours in education
