Thirty years after Robert Kennedy visited South Africa in 1966, delivering his”Ripple of Hope” speech at UCT, his wife Ethel and other members of the family came back for another visit - and thereby hangs a tale.
An arguably under-reported feature of the visit of the young presidential hopeful - who, even as he toured South Africa in June 1966, was honing his campaign to reach the White House in the 1968 US elections.
The picture identified is Kennedy’s visit to Stellenboch University, at the the Simonsberg mens’ residence, known as “Die Withuis”, at Stellenbosch University.
On Friday 10 Feb 2023 the Hotel becomes host to 60 ex residents of Simonsberg mens residence also aptly named "Die Withuis".
