Universal greening organization UGO

Universal greening organization UGO Environmental Protection youth-Led organization with SADC footprint. our slogan: Sharing the planet.

The Universal Greening Organisation (UGO) is a non-profit organisation which was formed by students of the University of Venda under the School of Environmental Sciences. The main objective of the organisation is to interchange information with the society about environmental conservation and preservation in broad. We assist
them in resolving environmental issues that they face in their respective

societies. In this manner UGO will assist communities in playing a significant role in the comprehension of Section 24 of the Constitution of RSA, which advocates for the creation of an environment that is not harmful to the health and welfare of the people of South Africa and those who lives in it. The concept of environmental awareness is the key to this organization. The organisation is operating guided by the following themes: Climate Change, Water & sanitation, Energy, Biodiversity, Food security, Waste management and Research. However, this helps people from communities to understand their role and responsibilities in mitigation of impact of these eight aspects. The world is moving towards green economy which is the reason why we must ensure sustainability in our resources for the benefits of current and future generations. The organization seeks to remain unique and recognised for its unique style and approach towards bringing environmental solutions to the country at large. The Universal greening organisation has introduced its approach of engaging undergraduate and post graduate students into work integrated learning through experience and research projects. Our second essential objective is to develop reports with real and measurable recommendations on how to address issues encountered by communities within Limpopo. This involves working with relevant stakeholders in addressing those issues, for instance: โ€œIf we identify that the community is using untested water from the river which might be contaminated, then we engage the Department of Water and Sanitation to attend to the matter with immediate effectโ€. This organisation involve traditional leaders of different communities and schools (Primary and Secondary) across the province during operation. The organisation works closely with trusted and reliable leaders on research projects which has been introduced to assist
students and communities.

As we await the outcome of the UGO Fellowship 2026 Cohort selection, we pause to reflect with one of our 2025 Fellows, Koketso Morwatshehla , interviewed by UGO Fellow Custodian Vutlari Dhliwayo during his travels in Kenya en route to Sierra Leone.

Their conversation captured the essence of what the Fellowship stands in reminding us that UGO modules such as Technology and Innovation are not merely about machines, but about pursuing sustainable change in Africaโ€™s environment and economic outputs.
These stories remind us that the Fellowship is more than a program, it is a movement of young Africans shaping a sustainable future, one journey at a time.

The Universal Greening Organisation-UGO today signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Namibia through the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC) in Windhoek.

Signed by UGO Executive Chairman and Founder, Mr Talifhani Tsh*twamulomoni , and Director of International Relations, Mr Omolemo Somolekae, the agreement establishes a strategic partnership focused on youth empowerment, leadership development, innovation, climate action, skills development and Pan-African cooperation.

The partnership will advance UGO's flagship Fellowship Programme, creating opportunities for young Namibians to access international exposure, leadership training, cultural exchange and sustainable development initiatives. It also provides a framework for collaboration on youth development programmes, entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, research, policy engagement and continental exchange initiatives.

Aligned with Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, the agreement strengthens UGO's vision of building a united, skilled and environmentally conscious generation of African youth under the banner:

"One Vision. One Africa."

This milestone marks another important step in UGO's continental mission to strengthen partnerships with governments and institutions committed to empowering young Africans and advancing African integration.

During transit at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, our South Africa Fellows and UGO Fellowship program leader, Khumalo-Nyembe , had the privilege of briefly exchanging words with the renowned P. L. O. Lumumba.

This moment, though just a few seconds, highlights how the UGO Fellowship Program opens doors for Fellows to connect with some of Africaโ€™s most prominent figures, whether planned or unplanned.

It is these encounters that remind us: leadership journeys are not only about structured programs, but also about the unexpected opportunities that shape vision and inspire courage.

On 9 May 2026, the UGO-UNIVEN Student Chapter honoured to participate in a career exhibition and networking session hosted by Bride Christ Ministries in Phiphidi, organised by BCMEP.

Learners were introduced to the idea that environmental sustainability must begin early, shaping career choices, leadership pathways, and innovation that will drive Africaโ€™s green economy. By engaging learners now, UGO is ensuring that the next generation is equipped to create livelihoods that protect the environment, preserve culture, and strengthen communities.

This initiative reflects UGOโ€™s vision that Africaโ€™s sustainable future depends on empowering youth to lead the transition into a resilient green economy.

Guided by our UGO Fellowship program leader Khumalo-Nyembe , the UGO 2025 Fellow who traveled to Sierra Leone stepped into a defining moment: an engagement with government officials at the Ministry of Youth.

This was not just a meeting. It was a dialogue between young leaders and industry experts, a chance to exchange visions of ethical leadership, sustainability, and youth empowerment. For the Fellow, it marked a bridge between learning and influence, between aspiration and impact.

Moments like these remind us that the UGO Fellowship is more than a program it is a platform where Africaโ€™s youth meet decisionโ€‘makers, shaping the green economy together.

Letโ€™s look back at one of the key workshops of March 2026, where the UGO Urban Heat Resilience Project truly took center stage.Stakeholders from 11 countries gathered to explore replication and scaling opportunities, highlighting the projectโ€™s growing relevance in tackling urban heat challenges, especially for vulnerable communities.

Day Four stood out for its countryโ€‘led knowledge sharing, with participants exchanging practical experiences, lessons learned, and innovative approaches tailored to their local contexts. These engagements are laying the foundation for sustainable, longโ€‘term collaboration beyond the workshop.

The diversity of languages, cultures, and cuisines brought an energizing spirit to the gathering, fostering inclusivity and strengthening crossโ€‘cultural dialogue.

From local lessons to global impact, UGO continues to shape resilience for the future.
