🎓 YOUTH MONTH 2026 | RESET@50 – The Future Calls

Eastcape Midlands TVET College, in collaboration with external stakeholders, joined the Department of Employment and Labour in celebrating Youth Month through an information-sharing and empowerment initiative aimed at equipping young people with the knowledge, opportunities and support needed to build successful futures.

The event provided valuable insights into skills development, career pathways, entrepreneurship, employment opportunities and access to support services available to young people.

Semester 2 of 2026 will be the final intake for new N4 students in Business programmes. Students with outstanding subjects are encouraged to make use of this opportunity, as NATED (Report 191) programmes are being phased out in accordance with the DHET teach-out plan.

IQMS Workshop at EMC Brickfields Campus

Today, Eastcape Midlands TVET College successfully hosted an Integrated Quality Management System (IQMS) Workshop at Brickfields Campus.

The workshop was facilitated by Mr Somlota and Mr Darmons from Lovedale TVET College and was attended by Senior Lecturers, the Deputy Campus Manager, the Campus Manager, as well as officials from the Academic Office and Human Resources.

The session provided valuable insights into the implementation and continuous improvement of IQMS processes, while creating an opportunity for meaningful discussions, knowledge sharing and collaboration.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the facilitators and all participants for contributing to the success of the workshop.

Access to information can change lives.

As part of Youth Month 2026: RESET@50 – The Future Calls, Eastcape Midlands TVET College participated in the Information Sharing Programme on Entrepreneurship and Road Safety Awareness hosted by Ubuntu Pathways in Zwide, Gqeberha.

The programme brought together key stakeholders to create awareness among young people, including out-of-school youth, about study opportunities, skills development programmes, entrepreneurship and career pathways available to them.

Eastcape Midlands TVET College engaged participants on its academic offerings, application processes and the transition to QCTO Occupational Qualifications, while the Student Support Unit highlighted the support services and development opportunities available to students.

By empowering young people with knowledge and access to opportunities, we are helping them to make informed decisions about their future and unlock their full potential.

ATTENTION STUDENTS/PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Please be advised that it has come to our attention that there is a voice note circulating advising students to pay a R1 000 registration fee to secure their space at the College.

Members of the public are advised not to pay money to any individual claiming that payment will secure a space or guarantee acceptance to study at the College.

Eastcape Midlands TVET College had a priviledge of attending the Youth Unemployment Summit 2026 that was hosted by Intaba Ka Vuba Development Foundation at Babs Madlakane in KwaNobuhle today. Learners from Sisonke High School, Thanduxolo High School, and youth from kwaNobuhle attended the event. The event was also attended by a group of parents, representatives from COSATU, MerSeta, FNB, Nedbank, Department of Labour, Department of Trade, Industry an Competion, Algoa Flying Club and SAPS.

Ms Magxaka, from EMC, shared crucial information regarding the transition within the TVET sector. She explained that some National Certificate (Vocational) (NCV) programmes and R191 programmes are being phased out. This transition is driven by the need to align training offerings with current industry demands and future skills requirements, ultimately ensuring that students are better equipped for the job market and self employment. She emphasized that this change is part of the broader national strategy to support the goals of the NDP 2030, which aims to position South Africa as a skilled, competitive, and inclusive economy.

She also stressed the importance of applying directly to TVET colleges and discouraged learners from making these colleges a second choice. She also encouraged learners to view TVET colleges as a primary option for skills development, reinforcing that the transition in programmes is designed to benefit their future careers.

The keynote address was delivered by Mr Tshayana, a MerSeta board member and VW employee. His speech focused on the importance of the TVET sector and the opportunities it presents. He emphasized that learners should prioritise TVET colleges as their first choice and seek guidance from their parents when applying for further studies. Mr Tshayana highlighted that the narrative in the country is shifting towards skills development, which is vital for economic growth and employment.

In addition to the keynote, several important messages were conveyed to empower the youth. the COSATU representative also took to the stage to offer words of wisdom to the youth. He also emphasized the importance of not only visiting the college campuses when they are rejected by other education institutions, but rather to see them as a first choice and not as a last resort. Furthermore, the COSATU representative stressed the significance of acquiring necessary skills to enhance employability and to compete effectively in the job market. By doing so, learners can increase their chances of securing employment and building a successful career.
The Kwanobuhle Police Station’s Station Commander advised learners to avoid alcohol, drugs, and criminal activities, stressing the importance of making safe and responsible choices. Finally, FNB representatives provided a brief on budgeting and emphasising the significance of managing finances effectively.

The summit served as a vital platform for inspiring and equipping the learners and the youth with the knowledge and tools necessary for their personal and professional development, reinforcing the importance of skills development in shaping the country’s future.
