FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MUT CLARIFIES STATUS OF ENDUDUZWENI PROPERTY ACQUISITION

Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) has issued a formal response to media inquiries regarding its reported interest in acquiring the Enduduzweni property from provincial authorities.
Addressing ongoing speculation, the University clarified that it has not finalised or concluded any transaction to acquire the property. While preliminary engagements were previously held with relevant provincial authorities and a draft agreement was formulated, the acquisition remains incomplete.

In response to queries concerning the current residents, many of whom rely on the site for living arrangements and craft-making activities, MUT noted that no formal agreements or support frameworks have been established, as the property transfer has not taken place. The University acknowledged the significance of Enduduzweni to its current occupants, and emphasized that stakeholder roles, including potential collaboration with the Department of Social Development (DSD), would only be defined in broader future discussions should the acquisition move forward.
MUT reiterated that its underlying motivation for exploring the site is to support its core educational mandate, and accommodate institutional growth as a higher education facility.

Regarding a timeline for taking ownership, the University stated that setting a target date remains premature. Any future transfer depends on finalising terms, obtaining necessary regulatory and institutional approvals, and establishing appropriate arrangements for the site's occupants.

MUT confirmed it will provide further updates to the public and media as official developments occur.
