mooiste mooi!
Hi everyone! We have gained so many followers over the past year that it is time to do an introduction.
Who’s the girl behind the brand Adene’s farm flowers and how did it start?🌸
I am Adene Nieuwoudt. I was born and raised in Paarl. I never really knew what i wanted to become. My dad wanted me to follow in his footsteps and become a laywer. The week before i started at Stellenbosch university i changed my course and studied Consumer science (Clothing and textiles).
After University i became a fashion buyer. I loved this job although i struggled working under a manager because I thought i always knew better 😂
I met my husband, i moved out of CT to his family fruit farm. We had this crazy idea that we wanted to start growing niche veggies or flowers back then already. The ideas faded away because my wedding photography boomed. Within 10 years i photographed 400 weddings. To experience so much beauty is incredible ❤️
I became good friends with the florists at weddings and they always complained not having “Pinterest” flowers available in RSA. At the same time my husband made me a veggie patch the size of a rugby field and i loved the challenge. I cared, fertilized, watered it. The most beautiful, organic veggies came from it. Something became alive inside me. Paramithi: Flower & Decor Design and Anli Wahl Floral Design- 2 of the best florists in RSA saw the photographs of my veggies and handed me a few packets of flower seeds which they got from Holland. I planted them between the veggies and the most gorgeous, healthy flowers soon bloomed…
On Sundays we always ate Sushi and sipped on Champagne while dreaming about the future. We decided it is time to take this dream to the next level. I started ordering seeds from all over the world, I ordered a library of books from overseas and read for months on end. Luckily I had my husband by my side with his 20+ years experience of farming.
It’s been a crazy amount of work that has gone into the business the past 6 years and it still is 7 days a week. What an adventure it’s been!!
Our farm is currently 5 hectars big and will grow to 11 hectars over the next 3 years.
We are open to the public from mid december till first week April for OPEN days. My favourite time is end December till January - then you can see both Hydrangeas and Dahlias in full bloom. Although the dahlias best time is from mid Jan till end Feb 🌸
Flower farming is very intensive. We currently employ 40 people and it will become more over summer.🌸
We supply to 500+ florists all over RSA (order online www.adeneflowers.co.za), Woolworths, Oranjezicht market and we will start exporting this year. 🌸
Thank you for being part of our journey ❤️
