I WILL NOT BE SILENCED. I HAVE COMMITTED NO CRIME.
Threats. Intimidation. Attacks. All in 24 hours. I have broken no law. I have violated no ethical standard. Here are the facts. Read carefully.
In the last 24 hours, I have received calls and texts. Threats. Intimidation. Warnings that my future could be "complicated."
All because I posted about medical errors.
Let me be clear about the facts not as a defense, but as a declaration.
Fact 1: I cited peer reviewed evidence.
The Johns Hopkins study found that medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the United States, more than 250,000 deaths per year. That is not my opinion. That is published, peer-reviewed research.
The 2016 disclosure study found that only 11% of harmful medical errors were fully disclosed to patients. That is not my opinion. That is data.
I did not invent these numbers. I read them. I shared them. That is what educators do.
Fact 2: I did not name any specific hospital, doctor, or institution in Zambia.
I spoke about a global problem, I explicitly stated that Zambia does not have good data, but there is no reason to believe we are better. Fewer resources. More overcrowding. Less training. Fewer safeguards.
Speaking about a system is not attacking individuals. Naming a problem is not defaming a person.
Fact 3: I have broken no law and violated no ethical standard.
The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) regulates medical practice. Their rules require competence, honesty, and patient safety. Nothing in my post violates any of those principles.
I did not reveal patient information. I did not defame a specific doctor. I did not practice medicine without a license. I did not give harmful advice.
I shared publicly available research. I added my opinion. That is not a crime. That is not an ethical breach. That is education.
Fact 4: The Zambian Constitution guarantees freedom of expression.
Article 20 of the Constitution protects the right to hold opinions and to receive and impart information. That right belongs to every citizen including me, including patients, including doctors.
Criticism is not defamation. Asking questions is not disrespect. Demanding accountability is not an attack.
If we cannot speak about medical errors without being threatened, then the system is not protecting patients. It is protecting itself.
Fact 5: The response to my post has proven my point.
I wrote that there is a "culture of silence" that protects medical professionals while patients suffer. I wrote that "doctors protect each other."
What happened next? Instead of engaging with the evidence, I have been attacked personally. Instead of discussing the data, I have been asked about my rank. Instead of answering the questions I raised, I have been threatened with consequences and threats on my future.
That is the culture of silence. That is the system refusing to look at itself.
I did not create this problem. I just named it. And the reaction has proven that I was right.
What I will do now.
I will not delete my post.
I will not apologize.
I will not stop speaking on patient safety.
I will not stop educating.
I will continue to post. I will continue to cite evidence. I will continue to advocate for patients.
What I invite.
If any โbodyโ or โassociationโ wants to discuss the evidence put your questions in writing. I will respond publicly. I have nothing to hide.
If you want to threaten me, intimidate me, or punish me, do it publicly. I will respond publicly. And I will name every person involved.
I have broken no law. I have violated no ethical standard. I have evidence for every claim.
The truth does not become false because powerful people are uncomfortable with it.
To those who have supported me: thank you.
To patients who have suffered in silence: I see you. I hear you. I will keep speaking for you.
I am not going anywhere.
