PACRA partners with chalimbana University to protect research and creative works.

Chongwe, Monday, 28th September, 2026 ZANIS.....The Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) has partnered with Chalimbana University to sensitise staff on intellectual property and the importance of protecting research, innovations and creative works.
The sensitisation programme was aimed at enhancing awareness and understanding of intellectual property rights, their protection and ownership, as well as the responsible utilisation of intellectual property.
Speaking during the programme, PACRA Deputy Chief Executive Officer Chilufya Chewe said protecting intellectual property was important in supporting Zambia’s development agenda by encouraging innovation, creativity and research.
Mr Chewe said universities play an important role in generating knowledge and innovative ideas, adding that protecting intellectual property would enable researchers and innovators to benefit from their work while contributing to national development.
Chalimbana University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Jameson Mbale said research conducted at the university could contribute significantly to the development of Zambia if properly protected and utilised.
Professor Mbale said intellectual property protection would also encourage staff and students to undertake research, develop innovative ideas and find solutions to challenges affecting communities and the country at large.
A lecturer at Chalimbana University, Alestus Siku, thanked PACRA for partnering with the university and providing staff with knowledge on how intellectual works, including research and creative works, could be properly protected.
The programme was held under the theme, “Protecting Innovation, Promoting Creativity and Creating Value through Intellectual Property.”
