KANG’OMBE JR URGES SOME LOSING CANDIDATES TO MOVE ON

By Stafrance Zulu

A youth of Tonse Alliance, Christopher Kang’ombe Jr, who withdrew from the race to pave way for sworn-in Dag Hammarskjöld Constituency Member of Parliament Ezra Tembo, has advised losing candidates to move on and allow the country to focus on important issues.

Mr Kang’ombe said young people should not allow themselves to be used in prolonged political battles, particularly through protests, insults on social media or confrontations arising from election disputes.

“To some losing Members of Parliament, move on and allow us to focus on important things. Stop using young people. Young people should not be used as foot soldiers for court battles, protests or insulting opponents online. If you are only calling them when there is a fight, a by-election or when you want someone to shout at another person, then you are not helping them,” he said.

He said leadership should be about ideas and service to communities rather than holding onto political positions, adding that political leaders should know when to step aside and allow others to serve.

“Leadership is not only about occupying a position. You can leave a position and still continue serving your community. I withdrew from the Dag Hammarskjöld race because I believed we needed to give Ezra Tembo an opportunity, and that does not mean I stopped serving the people. We should teach young people that politics is about service, ideas and development, not endless political fights,” Mr Kang’ombe said.

According to information available, the teacher allegedly submitted the fake death documents to the bank, prompting the institution to sympathise with his family and write off the loan.

The unusual case came to light four years later when the teacher reportedly returned to the same bank to apply for another loan.

The bank’s system flagged his application after indicating that he was already registered as deceased.

Kasungu Police spokesperson Miracle Hauli has confirmed the arrest but declined to provide further details.

Police are expected to provide more information as investigations continue.
