On Saturday (12/10/2019) the second year students of the Women’s Ministry organized a breast cancer awareness outreach program. This is the second outreach WM has held since the first one last year. It was held at the Brethren in Christ Church Lobengula attended by total of 57 ladies, including 6 ladies from the deaf community. Women’s Ministry student, Sithokozile Mlambo, was the sign-language interpreter for these ladies.
The speaker, Dr. Judith Chamisa, is a breast cancer survivor. She shared her experience dealing with the hard situation when she was told that she got breast cancer which resulted in a mastectomy and how she dealt with it and chemotherapy. She engaged the ladies to be more aware of their bodies, to be able to distinguish abnormalities happening or any symptoms showing.
She also encouraged the ladies not to be afraid to get proper treatments needed when they are diagnosed with breast cancer. Dr. Chamisa shared also healthy lifestyle and exercise tips for those who are undergoing treatments or have survived breast cancer. At the end of the session, Dr. Chamisa also reminded everyone in attendance not to dwell in their worries themselves, but to give their selves to God in prayers. She emphasized that they can enjoy life even after breast cancer.

Dr Ray Motsi is currently in Bujumbura, Burundi where he was invited to participate in the Annual Peacebuilding and Development Training held by the Great Lakes Peacebuilding Institute. He will be teaching a course module entitled “Understanding and Response to Stress and Trauma.”
En route to Burundi, Dr Motsi had a 10 hour layover in Kigali, Rwanda, where he visited the Kigali Memorial Centre. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide and the Centre was built as a memorial to the 800,000 - 1,000,000 people who were massacred. With 250,000 victims buried in mass graves on site, the Centre stands as a reminder that ignorance is costly. It also stands to caution the world against allowing history to repeat itself.

The Special Ministries department in conjunction with an NGO, Hope Connect, held the second of two workshops of 2019 on Wednesday (25/09/2019). These workshops are part of a continuing developing series concerning the need for parents and children or in the case of abandoned, orphaned and fostered children, and their carers to develop good personal SECURE relationships with children. The overall title of the workshops is DEVELOPING SECURE ATTACHMENTS.

In the workshop attended by numbers of people, the speakers, who are professional child psychologists, explained how the results of studies conducted through observation throughout different cultures and at different times, are showing the same pattern. That is that the interpersonal communication done by the parents or adults around children, especially infants, would influence them as they grow up. The study also revealed through doing close observation and developing close relationships at a young age can help the parent/carer detect possible problems in many areas, early on.
