SOCCER MATCHES PLAYED BETWEEN NOVA SATUS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY AND MELROSE SCHOOL.
On Monday the 26"h of June, Melrose School hosted Nova Satus Christian Academy for a
friendly match at Belgravia Sports Club in Harare. The two teams were meeting for the first time for juniors and seniors boys matches.
The first game to be played was between the juniors followed by that of the senior boys. Each game was played for a total of twenty minutes, each with a five minute half-time break. The Nova Satus boys could be recognised by a sky blue uniform whilst the Melrose boys were in white. The two matches were officiated by two different teachers from both schools, with Mr Cephas of Melrose taking the juniors and Mr C of Nova taking the seniors. The teams also gathered for group photos before the beginning of the matches.
The first match between the juniors ended with a 1-1 draw, with Nova scoring in the first half of the game and Melrose scoring in the second.
However, it was unfortunate for the Nova seniors as they lost 4-0 to Melrose. Nevertheless, both matches were cleanly played with minor fouls from both sides but no cards were issued. The matches ended with an exchange of handshakes between the two sides. after which people had refreshments to end the event.
CONCLUSION
The soccer matches proved to be a good way of improving the gameplay of Nova students as well as boosting confidence when they meet external schools. It was also a way of promoting interaction between different schools, something which can be useful in the learning of new ideas as well as strengthening relations.
However, major improvements need to be made on communication as well as organization in the aspect of venues and timing.
