The Department of Architecture, SUST, proudly congratulates Team আরণ্যক—Satyajit Das, Sowmik Roy, Toqi Mohammad Foisal, Purnata Prosad Roy, and Noshin Mahjabeen Farah, under the supervision of Ar. Nuuhash Akando, for receiving Honourable Mention 03 – Inclusive and Accessible Public Space Award in the A Carbon Conscious Urban Design Idea Competition 2026, organised by UNOPS, UNEP, UN-Habitat, and RAJUK.

Their project, "Somobai Dhara: A Participatory Park Governance System," redefines accessibility by extending it beyond physical design to embrace community participation, collective ownership, and inclusive stewardship. Through a participatory governance model, the proposal empowers people of all ages and backgrounds to actively contribute to the management and evolution of public space. Integrating universal accessibility, ecological regeneration, educational initiatives, and circular construction strategies using reclaimed materials, the project presents an inspiring vision for resilient, community-driven urban development.

This remarkable achievement reflects the team's commitment to socially responsive and environmentally conscious design. We congratulate the entire team for bringing recognition to the Department of Architecture, SUST, and wish them continued success in their future endeavours.

PROJECT: VERTICAL CITY: STREETS IN THE SKY

LEVEL 3 TERM 2
DURATION: 8 WEEKS
SITE: GULSHAN-2, DHAKA

This project aimed to rethink the high-rise typology within the Bangladesh context. Instead of a tower isolated from the urban public realm, the studio proposed a layered vertical city in which streets, plazas, public activities, and private zones stack to create an interconnected urban ecosystem in the sky.
Surrounded by retail shops, office towers, dense mixed-use neighbourhoods with intense street activity and expected heavy pedestrian flow throughout the day due to the proposed underground MRT Line-5 station, the site demanded a vertical solution that integrated publicness, transit connectivity, and density zoning—forming a new urban node within Gulshan's evolving vertical cityscape.

PROJECT: HEALTHCARE FOR TOMORROW: A REHABILITATION CENTER FOR STREET CHILDREN

LEVEL 3 TERM 2
DURATION: 6 WEEKS

SITE: A 0.5 ACRE PLOT BESIDE MANIKPIR TILA GRAVEYARD, KUMARPARA, SYLHET
TARGET GROUPS: STREET CHILDREN (6–18 YEARS OLD, MALE & FEMALE)

Street children are always under the threat of social exclusion, making their lives frustrated and hopeless. Children growing up in such an environment are found psychologically and emotionally damaged.
This project explored architecture’s role in social healing and reintegration. Students designed a rehabilitation centre that provides shelter, healthcare, and development opportunities for street-involved children in a high-density urban context.
This studio challenged students to go beyond the physical existence of spaces to design spaces of care, dignity, and transformation, where vulnerable children can rediscover a sense of home, identity, and belonging.
