GOLDEN FORM! PRECIOUS MASABA CONQUERS SOUTH AFRICA AHEAD OF DAKAR 2026! 🥊🇧🇼

Talk about making a statement before the big stage!

Our Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games-bound boxing star, Precious Masaba, has wrapped up an incredible week at the Regional Preparatory Camp in Pretoria, South Africa (hosted by the Transnet Engineering Boxing Academy from 22–29 October) with two massive victories!

Stepping into the ring in the 52kg division:
▪️ On 24 October, she took down Annah Maseko of Diamond Boxing Club in an elite showcase bout curtain-raising for professional fighters.
▪️ On 29 October, she entered the Gauteng Provincial Tournament and faced the undefeated South African national champion—handing her opponent her very first career defeat to claim victory!

With the high-intensity camp wrapping up today, Precious and Team Botswana are officially dialed in and set to depart for Dakar on 31 October 2026! 🇸🇳✈️

Drop your loudest cheers, well-wishes, and a 🇧🇼 in the comments for Precious as she heads to Senegal in peak winning form! 💬👇

Athlete development involves more than what happens during training or competition.
Nutrition, sleep, recovery and overall wellbeing can influence how athletes prepare, perform and recover. Supporting athletes means considering the bigger picture.

HONORING A CHAMPION, A BROTHER, AND AN OLYMPIAN: REST IN POWER, LEANAME MAOTOANONG 🇧🇼🕊️

Today, the Botswana sports leadership, athletes, sporting fraternity, and family gathered in solemn remembrance to celebrate the life and towering legacy of our beloved Olympian, Leaname Maotoanong.

The memorial service was graced by the Honorable Minister of Sports and Arts, Jacob Kelebeng, who joined Botswana sports leadership, fellow Olympians, and the sports community in paying homage to a national hero who represented our flag with unmatched distinction.

Leaname was a cornerstone of Botswana’s golden era of 400m and relay sprinting. He wore our national colors with unmatched grit and pride, anchoring moments that will forever be etched into our sporting folklore:
▪️ 5th-place finalist at the historic Rio 2016 Olympic Games (setting a monumental 2:59.06 African benchmark in the 4×400m relay)
▪️ 🥇 Gold Medalist – 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (4×400m)
▪️ 🥇 Double African Champion – 2014 Marrakech & 2016 Durban (4×400m)
▪️ 🥈 Silver Medalist – 2015 Gwangju World University Games (400m Individual | PB: 45.63s) & 2015 African Games

Beyond the track, Leaname dedicated his post-competition years to his fellow competitors as an elected Committee Member of the BNOC Athletes’ Commission (2022–2025). He stood as a steadfast advocate for athlete rights, welfare, and logistical support, bridging the gap between sports administration and the athletes he loved so deeply.

To the Maotoanong family, his teammates, and everyone whose life he touched across Botswana and the world: our thoughts and prayers remain with you.

Robala ka kagiso, Champion. Your race is run, but your legacy will forever guide Team Botswana. 🕊️🇧🇼
