This past week our students completed their first coordinated travel! Swipe to see what each program was up to!

Here we see our Geoscience students in the Swiss Alps studying sedimentary and tectonic evolution of the mountains!

Our students in the European Affairs program explored historical dimensions that shaped Poland’s economic, political, and social transformations of the 20th century!

Here you see our Civil Engineering cohort studying the water infrastructure and resource management in Germany after also visiting Italy and other Swiss cities!

Our architects visited Norway, Sweden, and Finland to learn about mass timber construction and library design!

And finally, our Salute students visited Lausanne, Switzerland to study nutrition across the lifespan by spending time at a variety of health and wellness facilities!

Casa Maderni Community Trip Fall 2026!

This weekend our students had the opportunity to participate in an experiential learning trip for their class entitled “Reading Italian Cities: Turin & Primo Levi”! Students prepared for this trip by reading up on and discussing the life and work of Primo Levi, a famous local Italian author. They visited many sights and presented short talks on landmarks around the city. It was an absolute blast and we cannot wait to return next fall!

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting Associazione Testematte for the annual Garden Party here at the Steger Center! Our students had the opportunity to meet and mingle with members of the community over good food and lively music. We are so happy to offer this unique community building event every fall semester. It was an amazing night and we look forward to hosting it again next year!

This past weekend we had the pleasure of hosting Associazione Testematte for our annual Garden Party here at the Steger Center! It was a wonderful evening filled with music, good food, and community. Our students had an incredible time meeting more people from Riva San Vitale and getting to know more about this unique town. We are thrilled to offer such a special opportunity at the Steger Center every fall semester!

Everyone please give a warm welcome to our Fall 2026 Steger Center cohort! This weekend we completed orientation and took a beautiful trip to Bellinzona. We have five wonderful programs joining us this semester:

Civil and Environmental Engineering
Geosciences: Rockin’ the Alps
European Affairs in a Global Context
Salute: Food and Health in Switzerland

Each group has an excellent group of students and faculty ready to take on the new semester here in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland! 🇨🇭

Happy Graduation to all of our amazing Steger Center alumni! We couldn’t be prouder 🎓🌎 Read below to see what a few of our most recent graduates are planning to do next ⬇️

Sam Mostow 🧡 Hello! My name is Sam Mostow and I participated in the European Affairs in a Global Context program in Fall 2024. I am graduating with a degree in Multimedia Journalism with minors in Political Science and Music. My post-grad plans include pursuing a job in journalism and my experience at the Steger Center has definitely shaped my experience at VT and beyond!

Sami Burgess 🩵 Hi! My name is Sami and I studied abroad at the Steger Center with Salute in the Fall 2023 and returned as a TA for this program in Fall 2025. Salute was one of the most impactful experiences in my undergraduate degree. Not only did I get to immerse myself in the Swiss and Italian cultures, I also got hands on experience with food production and sustainable practices used in Europe! I am so grateful for the lifelong friends I made through this program. Next year, I will begin my international masters program in Europe to learn more about sustainable food production.

Emily Barcalow 💚 Hi! My name is Emily and I was part of PGS 2024. Study abroad was a huge part of my undergraduate experience and taught me so much about myself and my goals for post-grad. Next year I am returning to the Steger Center as the Graduate Assistant for the 26-27 academic year! I am so excited to pursue my Master’s in Political Science through VT while getting the opportunity to spend another year in Riva! I can’t wait to meet all the new students and help get them settled in our beautiful home away from home:)

Christina Marina 💜 Hi! My name is Christina and I studied abroad at the Steger Center for PGS in 2024. As a graduating senior, PGS was such a memorable part of my undergrad experience - I grew not only as a student surrounded by the best faculty, but also as a person filled with so much more confidence! It truly was a one of a kind experience that makes it hard to put into words. Next year, I will be attending law school, but will continue to day dream about my time abroad❤️
