A New Dawn for Inclusive Education in Crisis Settings

In partnership with UNESCO and through the Education Cannot Wait , the Foundation for Inclusive Education and Development FIED has taken a major step forward in advancing learning for children with disabilities in emergency contexts.

Ten FIED supervisors and Facilitators recently completed an intensive training on Education in , focusing on practical strategies and the use of accessible learning materials. This training equips our teams to better support learners with diverse needs in Temporary Learning Spaces across the South West Region of Cameroon.TLSs

The accessible materials introduced include braille, tactile and sensory learning aids, large-print books, and other assistive resources designed to remove barriers and ensure meaningful participation for every child.

has been a proud implementing partner of UNESCO since 2019, with inclusive education at the heart of our collaboration. We are also part of the broader ECW consortium in Cameroon, working alongside , , , , and to ensure that no child is left behind, even in crisis.

Thanks to the support of , , and , children living with disabilities in our TLSs will now have the tools and environment they need to learn, thrive, and participate with dignity.

Day 1 training on the utilisation of disability tools and materials to facilitate learning for children of spacial needs and those living with disabilities.
UNESCO is rolling out this training to her Partners as part of the ECW - MYRP. this is work in progress. FIED is Imimenting this program in partnership with UNESCO, WEP and UNICEF.

A New Dawn for Children in the South West Region, Cameroon

The University of Buea, in partnership with UNICEF and in collaboration with FIED and other partners, has successfully launched the Child Rights Center on the UB campus. This center will serve as a beacon of hope for child-centered issues across all sectors.

The UNICEF Representative for Cameroon was present at the ceremony. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buea officiated the event, which was also attended by representatives from various government ministries. NASLA was equally represented.

This center is a pivotal milestone and will go a long way in advocating for and protecting the rights of children, in consonance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

FIED’s Work in Progress: Strengthening Humanitarian Response in Cameroon

FIED was selected and trained by UNICEF in Monitoring and Reporting Mechanisms (MRM), a critical step toward establishing a new national network in Cameroon. The expert training was led by Samuel Sesay, a specialist from UNICEF Headquarters in Washington, whose facilitation was exceptional and highly impactful.

As a result of this capacity building, FIED has been elevated to a strategic position within Cameroon’s humanitarian response framework. While the workload is substantial, the journey is long, and the demands are considerable, FIED remains committed and will continue to stand tall, delivering with the same resilience and excellence it is known for. The week long training was timely and place FIED on a better understanding especially on issues related to children.
