🌍 From the University Of Cyprus to the heart of European investment! 🇪🇺

Kypros Katsiamis, a student in the Department of Business and Public Administration, took part in the EIB Summer School 2026, organised by the European Investment Bank (EIB), gaining valuable international experience and insights into European investment and finance.

The two-week programme combined online sessions with an immersive week at the EIB headquarters in Luxembourg. Participants explored the Bank’s operations and learned about project assessment, financing and investment decision-making, while exchanging ideas with Master’s students from universities across Europe.

A highlight of the programme was a visit to the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), which offered Kypros further insight into the institution’s role and activities.

💬 “It was a wonderful experience that combined academic knowledge, practical insights, networking and meaningful discussions about Europe’s future,” Kypros shared, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to represent the University of Cyprus.

Professor Sofronis Clerides, Dean of our School, participated in the celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of Asia Europe Business School at East China Normal University in Shanghai, China 🇨🇳, on 17 October 2026.

The programme included the Global SciTech Business Deans’ Forum, which brought together academics and university leaders to discuss the future of business education. Professor Clerides delivered a keynote address titled “Rethinking (Business) Education in the Age of AI and Geopolitical Realignment”. He emphasised the need to rethink learning outcomes, teaching methods, and assessment in response to AI; strengthen practical skills without sacrificing theoretical understanding and critical thinking; and make lifelong learning a sustained institutional commitment.

Last night, together with Kraken, a Payward company, we celebrated the awarding of six scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic year to outstanding postgraduate students of our Faculty. 🎓

Three scholarships were awarded to students of the MSc in Finance and three to students of the MSc in Data Science, supporting their academic journeys and recognising their potential to shape the future of finance, technology and innovation.

Beyond the scholarships, the evening brought together representatives from government, academia and industry for an engaging discussion on the role of digital education and financial innovation in shaping Cyprus’s and Europe’s digital future.

We are grateful to Kraken for its generosity and commitment to investing in the next generation of talent, and for helping create opportunities that can make a lasting difference.

Congratulations to all six scholarship recipients, and our sincere thanks to Kraken, our speakers and everyone who joined us for this special evening.

🏆 Outstanding achievement for the University Of Cyprus at the CFA Societies Regional Research Challenge 2026!

We are delighted to congratulate Andreas Liasi, graduate of the Department of Accounting and Finance, for securing 2nd Place for his team at the CFA Societies Regional Research Challenge 2026, competing against university representatives from nine countries.

The competition took place on 12 September 2026 at the Egyptian Exchange in Cairo, hosted by CFA Society Egypt and organized by CFA Society Emirates.

Taking on the role of an equity research analyst, Andreas presented and defended an in-depth investment analysis of TITAN Cement International, examining the company’s operations, financial performance, competitive environment, growth strategy, ESG considerations and investment risks. The analysis incorporated detailed financial forecasts, a Discounted Cash Flow valuation, peer-based valuation, sensitivity analysis, and bull and bear scenarios.

The journey began with the team’s success in the CFA Research Challenge Cyprus Local Contest in 2025 and continued through the EMEA Regional Semi-Finals, culminating in this exceptional result in Cairo.

We were delighted to welcome Professor George M. Constantinides to the Faculty of Economics and Management for a meeting with the recipients of the 2026 George M. Constantinides PhD Award, Christos Statheas, Elia Antoniou and Paris Trokkos.

The meeting provided an excellent opportunity for the recipients to discuss their research interests, the academic job market and future research plans, with Professor Constantinides sharing valuable insights and advice. We are grateful for Prof. Constantinides’ continued support of the next generation of researchers in finance and financial economics.

Our School congratulates Professor Dimitrios Xefteris of the Department of Economics on securing funding under the Horizon Europe Twinning programme.

Professor Xefteris is the coordinator of the research project “Equality, Quality Institutions and Democratic Engagement through Mechanism Design”, which has a total budget of €1,495,430, of which €747,625 has been awarded to the University Of Cyprus.

This achievement marks an important distinction for both the Department of Economics and the Faculty of Economics and Management. It reflects the high quality of research conducted at the University of Cyprus and highlights the strong presence of its academics in highly competitive European research programmes.
