What can an old film reveal about Cairo's streets? What can a radio recording tell us about the concerns of an earlier generation? And what stories can we hear through the voices of people who witnessed history?
On World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, the AUC RBSCL celebrates the sound recordings, films, videos, and oral histories that preserve Egypt's cultural memory and bring the past to life.
Listen to history through the Voice of America Egypt radio archive, see Egypt in historic films and discover personal memories through oral histories that document the experiences of artists, architects, activists, scholars, and communities....
These recordings are more than sounds and images. They are invaluable historical sources that preserve voices, experiences, and cultural expressions for future generations.

This Global Media and Information Literacy Week (24–31 October), we invite you to explore our collections and discover how looking critically at the past can help us better understand the present.

📰 Historical newspapers and magazines, 📸 photographs, 📜 manuscripts, 🗺️ maps, personal archives, oral histories, and rare books,... all offer valuable examples of how information is created, preserved, interpreted, and used as evidence 🔎

But historical sources are more than records of the past. They encourage us to ask: Who created this source? What perspective does it represent? What information does it preserve, and what might be missing? How can we evaluate and contextualize what we find?

These are questions that help us navigate today's media-rich world, distinguish reliable information, and make informed decisions.

At the AUC RBSCL, we celebrate the art of translation through the literary legacy of Naguib Mahfouz, whose novels have reached readers around the world through translation.
From Midaq Alley and The Cairo Trilogy to The Thief and the Dogs, Miramar, and The Coffeehouse, AUC Press has played a significant role in bringing Mahfouz’s writing to English-language readers. Check out the translated work of Naguib Mahfouz at the AUC RBSCL (3rd floor) in their special shelving area.

We were delighted to welcome a delegation from the University of East London (UEL) to the AUC Architectural Archives (Regional Architecture Collection at the AUC Library) as part of the AUC–UEL collaboration supported by the British Council TNE Fund.

The visit brought together academics, researchers, and students exploring sustainable architecture, upcycled agricultural materials, and circular-economy approaches.

Our guests had the opportunity to explore original drawings and archival materials by renowned Egyptian architects, including Hassan Fathy, Ramses Wissa Wassef, Saleh Lamie, and Sayed Karim.

A wonderful exchange connecting architectural heritage, research, and new ideas for sustainable futures!
