🎓 Applications Now Open – Master of Science in Urban Planning (MUP)! 🌍

DUPAD is now accepting applications for its Master’s programmes for the September 2027 intake. Passionate about shaping sustainable cities? Explore our MUP programme:

𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐌𝐔𝐏)

This two-year full-time international programme provides comprehensive professional training in urban and regional planning. It emphasises sustainable city management, with a strong focus on Hong Kong, China, and the Asia-Pacific. 🏙️🌿

The programme offers two streams:

🔹 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐔𝐏) 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦: Integrates theory with action-oriented, problem-based learning. It focuses on Hong Kong and China’s best practices, cultivating interdisciplinary and critical thinking for better placemaking.

🔹 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐔𝐑𝐏) 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦: Focuses on regional perspectives, treating the Greater Bay Area and China as living laboratories. It includes field trips to leading global “Bay Areas” to master practical, cross-border planning skills.

📌 Accreditation & Prospects:
Graduates are equipped for roles as urban planners, policy analysts, and transport professionals.

· Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP): UP stream graduates with 2 years of experience are eligible (subject to approval for URP).
· Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI): Both streams are eligible for membership, enabling status as a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) in HK.
· Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT): Both streams (transport specialisation) are eligible for Chartered Membership (CMILT).

𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 (𝐌𝐔𝐃)
Established in 1988, the MUD programme is a pioneering postgraduate degree in Asia. The curriculum focuses on designing the built environment amidst climate disruptions and inequalities in wealth and health. Drawing on cutting-edge research and Hong Kong’s unique context as a high-density “living laboratory,” the programme attracts a diverse mix of local and international students to explore the ‘agency’ of urban form, sustainable accessibility, well-being, and placemaking. 🏙️🌿

📌 Curriculum Highlights:
The one-year curriculum spans three semesters with a two-layered approach:
🔹 Core Courses: Master design theories, urban morphologies, policy, and cutting-edge digital skills (data analytics, performance simulation).
🔹 Design Studios: Tackle site-specific challenges in Hong Kong and overseas, reinforced by a field trip to engage with stakeholders. The programme culminates in a capstone research dissertation or design thesis.

📌 Accreditation & Prospects:
Taught by leading academics and practitioners, the programme is accredited by the Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design (HKIUD) and the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
Graduates are highly sought after in design practices, real estate, and the public sector, engaging in masterplans, design appraisal, policies, and place-making initiatives globally.

【🎓 Welcoming Our Future Urban Leaders: DUPAD TPG Admission Talk 2027/28】
On 17 October 2026, we successfully hosted our TPG Admission Talk, welcoming a great number of prospective students both on campus and online! 🏙️✨

The event kicked off with a warm welcoming speech by our Department Head, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐞, who shared the Department’s vision and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for future urban planners, designers, and analysts.

Following the opening address, our programme teachers provided an in-depth introduction to our five Master’s programmes, covering curriculum structures, unique features, and career pathways:

The session concluded with a highly engaging Q&A session. Many enthusiastic participants—both on-site and joining via Zoom—raised insightful questions about the programmes, admission requirements, and career prospects. It was wonderful to see such strong interest and interaction from our future students! 🗣️🙌

MUS&HM is an interdisciplinary postgraduate programme offered by the Department of Urban Planning and Design (DUPAD). Designed for both aspiring and practising professionals, it offers two distinct study streams:

🔹 Housing Management (Professional Stream) (1-Yr FT / 2-Yr PT)
Building on 30+ years of Hong Kong’s pioneering curriculum, this stream provide advanced training for students looking to specialise in housing area.

🔹 Urban Studies Stream (1-Yr FT)
Ideal for graduates from diverse academic backgrounds, offering interdisciplinary training on contemporary urban and housing debates, theories, and research methodologies.

📌 Professional Accreditation:
The Housing Management (Professional) Stream is recognized by the Chartered Institute of Housing and the Hong Kong Institute of Housing. Graduates are eligible to apply for Corporate Membership after fulfilling the Practical Experience Requirement (PER). It is also a recognized academic qualification for Property Management Practitioner (Tier 1) Licence.

MUA has received "specialist" accreditation from the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) . Graduates could become members of RTPI under the Associate Route — RTPI Associate Members after 2 years of planning experience, and RTPI Chartered Members after another 2 years via A-APC.
