Lead for Life has pushed me to grow in certain aspects that define my leadership and character. I’ve found the importance of having human relations and connections. “There is a certain kind of growth that does not announce its presence loudly and is rather accumulated quietly and steadily over time, through meaningful encounters and experiences. Looking back, this is the perfect way to describe my first year in Lead for Life. I have been transformed in ways I did not quite anticipate. As I carry with me not just memories, but also these learnings, I have a different understanding of who I am and who I aspire to become as a leader of character. I am filled with gratitude for the experience that has stretched and shaped me. I entered the programme eager to grow, and have begun to understand what growth actually feels like. “Lead for Life not only provides a platform for me to meet new people but also develops in me the courage to talk to strangers and broaden my social circle. As Lead for Life is a large-scale and huge programme, I can always make it as my lines to start a conversation. In this way, I unexpectedly made a bond with another student from my faculty but different cohorts who has helped a lot with my field work and we’ve became close friends. I am really benefitted by this program.”

"Lead for Life has made me see leadership differently. It is not a title. It is a way of living with kindness, respect, and a desire to keep learning. A leader should care about virtue, not just money or results. A leader works on themselves every day – they admit mistakes and try to be better. That felt different from the image of a 'perfect leader' who never fails. It was more real. I want to try that, even in small ways, starting today. In my own life, I can try to be more patient, listen more, and think about what is right, not just what is easy."

“My time with my mentor group has been most memorable because of our honest sharing and those unscripted conversations. No one tried to sound impressive. They just sounded real. We answered tough questions with raw fragments rather than polished summaries. Lead for Life is a safe space to talk and think about life, family pressures, imposter syndrome, and the loneliness of leading when no one sees the cost… I used to measure myself and try hard to prove myself against an invisible standard of success. But now I’ve learned that showing up with honesty and presence is already an act of courage. Leadership isn’t always about having answers. It’s about creating a place where people could admit they don’t, and still feel valued.”

As a freshman, I was once filled with self-doubt on my ability to lead - a project, a new initiative, or even bringing out a conversation with new faces on campus. Lead for Life offered me a diverse learning journey of mentorship and reflection, during which I gradually started to explore my character strengths, who I currently am, and the kind of leader I wanted to become. It empowers me to foster new ideas, embrace changes, face challenges without fear and move ahead to involve myself in the wider community.

"When I first joined Lead for Life, I thought leadership was about positions, titles, and influencing other people. But after my first year, I have learned that leadership begins with myself — my virtues, my fears, my willingness to step out of my comfort zone. Lead for Life has given me tools to learn, through success and struggles. My mentor group has been a safe space that thought me leadership isn’t about being loud. It’s the quiet will to unite people when there’s differences of opinion. I don't expect to be perfect, but to continue growing as someone who influences with gratitude, steps out of comfort with courage and serves without respect."

"I assumed Lead for Life would be full of workshops and group activities. But I found out that it is way more than that. Lead for Life has been a space for me to think about who I am, learn from others, and gradually learn what it means to be a leader of character. This first year has helped me to appreciate that leadership isn’t just confidence, or just accomplishments; it’s about self-awareness, empathy and developing genuine relationships. From the various parts of the course I’ve discovered more about myself, my values, and who I want to be. I'm now more conscious, more appreciative, and more inclined to grow. For me, that is a really important start."
