The Academic Department (ACAD 🔬📊)’s mission is to equip AMSAHK members with the skills to conduct original research, present on an international stage, and contribute to Hong Kong’s growing reputation as a medical research and innovation hub 🌏🎓

Being part of ACAD means having a supportive group of peers behind your ideas, every step of the way 🧬💊. This past year, our team co-authored research with HKU and CUHK professors, placing 3rd and 2nd, respectively, in the scientific paper competitions at EAMSC and AMSC 🏆. Our projects spanned postpartum depression, AI-driven drug discovery, and antibody design for Chikungunya virus 🧬💊. We also welcomed 221 students to tackle chronic diseases in our HKUMed- and CUMed-endorsed competition, awarding winners with InnoHK lab attachments 🥼, and partnered with AMSA Thailand to bring research training to 400+ medical students worldwide 🌍—and that’s just a glimpse of what we do :)!

The Standing Committee on Exchange (SCOE🗺️🧳) is all about connecting medical students from all around the world 🌍! Split into 3 sections, SCOPE 🧑‍⚕️ for professional exchanges, SCORE 🔬for research exchanges and AMSEP 🧑‍✈️ for preclinical exchanges, we help students exchange at every stage of their medical journey!

This year, we conducted a number of professional and research exchanges✈️. Preclinical students from countries such as Belgium and Portugal, and clinical students from Brazil and Malaysia, attached to doctors and professors at HKU and CUHK 🥼🩺. To facilitate, we organised transport logistics, social meal gatherings, and visits to local attractions - ensuring a welcoming experience for their four-week exchanges.

We also successfully ran AMSEP, in which we brought Filipino and German medical students on a journey of discovering Hong Kong’s vibrant culture, delicious foods 🍜 and attractions 🏙️. From academic exposure to unforgettable social activities, we’ve built friendships that will surely last a lifetime 🤝.

The Standing Committee on Medical Education (SCOME)’s mission is simple: to support and supplement medical students everywhere with the knowledge that medical curricula sometimes do not cover 🌍🩺.

Join the SCOME family and you’ll get to organise flagship events like ‘Breaking the Silence 🗣️’ and ‘Dr. Dogs Day’🐶🐾. You’ll get the opportunity to connect with experts 👨‍💻 and learn about crucial health issues together.

We focus on issues that often get overlooked. Last year, we ran a workshop called “Speaking To The Spectrum”, training students in SEN communication and empathy, and organised a Condom Making Workshop in collaboration with SCORA❤️, and created an entire Medical Escape Room!

The Public Relations Department (PR 📩🗣️) connects AMSAHK with external parties. We communicate with professors and student groups from both medical schools, as well as other organisations. 📢🤩🤩

Besides networking, PR also has a major role in hosting our Inauguration Ceremony and MedStart, our annual flagship event targeting aspiring medical students. 😇As a member of PR, you get free public speaking training as preparation for your role as MCs at MedStart. 🎤🗣️We work extra hard every year to ensure the success of these events. 😁💪

The Secretariat Department (SEC 🤑💎🗂️) handles a lot of the behind-the-scenes work that keeps AMSAHK going!

From planning big events like Inauguration Ceremony and MedStart, to helping other departments organise their activities, SEC is involved in making things happen 🤩 We also liaise with faculty, sort out merchandise, and work with other operational departments when last-minute problems come up 💡✅

Of course, SEC also takes care of AMSAHK’s finances, including invoices, reimbursements, and collecting payments from participants 💰💸💵

The Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Including HIV & AIDS [SCORA ❤️‍🔥👼👩‍🍼] is dedicated to breaking down stigma and championing open conversations around sexual health, HIV, AIDS, and gender identity.

Join SCORA 🌈– In the past tenure, we ran hands-on events such as our ‘Speak Up Sexually Smarter: Condom Making Workshop’ with Sagami HK, giving participants the chance to make and stress-test condoms while challenging common misconceptions 💪, and our ‘Comprehensive Sexuality Education Workshops’ at secondary schools, where students explored topics like STIs, birth control, gender, and sexuality 🏳️‍🌈⚧️🦠. We also hosted ‘BUMPS: The Ups and Downs of Pregnancy’ alongside Teen’s Keys 🔑, which deepened awareness of maternal health, teen pregnancy, and abortion in Hong Kong through a belly-simulation obstacle course, plus an insightful talk from CUHK’s O&G specialist Dr Nikki Lee, who showed natural delivery techniques using lifelike models 🫄🍼👶. We hope to spark curiosity and challenge the status quo 💡!!

This year, we want to generate MORE new and creative events to destigmatise and advocate. We also plan to boost our Instagram presence AMSAHK SCORA with even more engaging posts!! ❤️‍🔥💪

The Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH 🧡🍊) is where advocacy meets community impact! In SCOPH, you will have the opportunity to organise workshops and community outreach events!😻🧡

Last tenure, we held “Eye-to-I” 👀, an interactive eye health workshop in collaboration with OrbisHK. At the event, we created a fun sunglasses-making activity and even featured a guest speech from Prof. Kendrick Shih!

For our flagship event, AMSACS, we held “Ctrl+ Health”, which aimed to target the aging elderly population in Hong Kong 🧓🏻👴🏻. By introducing and educating participants about digital apps, such as HA Go and eHealth, our workshop successfully improved e-health advocacy in local elderly communities ❤️‍🔥!!

The Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace (SCORP 💚🕊️🦂) believes that Hong Kong should be a place where all individuals are entitled equal access to human rights ⚖️. As future healthcare professionals, we are committed to standing in solidarity with vulnerable and marginalised populations 🫂.

Our activities are well-known to be fun, educational AND meaningful to the community 🌎. One of our most memorable experiences this tenure was our flagship event Disabilities Experience Day, where participants learned about cognitive disabilities 🧠 through interactive activities and physical disabilities ♿️by navigating different routes around Hong Kong on wheelchairs for a day🦽🏙️.

SCORP also offers endless opportunities for collaboration with both local and internationally renowned organisations 💼. In the 2025/2026 tenure, AMSAHK has been awarded “Best Chapter Award”, “Best Academic Chapter” and “Best Community Service Award” in Tier 1 by AMSA International. Congratulations!

The “Best Chapter Award” is deemed through the Chapter Performance Assessment System (CPAS), an evaluation tool used to track an AMSA chapter’s involvement and contributions within AMSA International. Ranging from offline conferences and events to online webinars, workshops, masterclasses, and more our CPAS score reflects our outstanding engagement.

The “Best Academic Chapter” award is given by AMSACAD, the academic subsidiary of AMSA International maintaining academic integrity and the “Knowledge” vision of AMSA. AMSA Hong Kong’s contributions included co-hosting the International ResearchNav 2026 with AMSA-Thailand, participating in multiple online workshops, and achieving notable success in international competitions this tenure, securing 3rd place in the East Asian Medical Students’ Conference (EAMSC) and 2nd place in the Asian Medical Students’ Conference (AMSC), both for the Scientific Paper category.

The “Best Community Service Award” recognises our AMSA Community Service (AMSACS) event. This initiative serves to encourage each AMSA chapter to host and frequent community service programmes locally, touching the lives of those in need. Earlier this year in March, AMSA Hong Kong’s very own The Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH) hosted their project Ctrl+ Health, a hands-on workshop dedicated to bridging the technology gap for the elderly. By teaching participants how to confidently use digital tools like the eHealth and HA Go apps, our results found that there was a 41.5% average increase in confidence for utilisation of the government health applications. Therefore demonstrating that the project helped seniors take charge of their health with greater ease and independence.
