Sad to hear of Donal Lunny's passing. He played the Balor twice with Mozaik. And played another memorable gig here with Tibetan singer Yungchen Llhamo.
That 1st night with Mozaik in the old Balor was special. The 5 of them stayed back afterwards and told the most unbelievable and hilarious stories about the touring scene of the '70's. Donal and Andy Irvine had tales from their young, wild days that you wouldn't believe. Apparently the rock n'roll scene was only in the ha'penny place compared to the trad and folk circuit. We drank and laughed til all the red w**e was gone.
The phrase one of a kind is over-used and too easily applied but not in this case. We really have lost one of Ireland's great musicians and characters.
