This is your formal invitation to the annual UCC Physics Formal! This event will take place next Thursday, the 5th of November in the Metropole Hotel. It is a great way to meet the other years and chat to the lecturers and maybe have a little boogie. Tickets are €40 and you can buy them from the link in our bio. Ticket collection will be advertised next week so keep an eye out 👁️ (you must show your physical ticket on entry) Finger food will be provided too. Dress formally, this is the formal after all! Who’s feeling social, spooky and scary? Get in the spirit of halloween 🎃 with uccphysoc’s annual halloween social this Tuesday! Wearing a costume is encouraged provided it’s not too scary 😧(no repeats of the terrifying Maxwells equations). Come talk with the lecturers and other students in the spooky Franciscan Well! We hope to see you all there (even if you’re unrecognisable) 🧌👻

Ok Computer 💻 HelloWorld(“print”). In physics you will need a plethora of computer skills (skills that I still do not have as a 4th year 🤪) However, you do not have to succumb to the same fate as me! Attend our computer literacy workshop next Wednesday, the 21st of October to learn about LaTex, virtual environments and Linux, all very important and fundamental parts of a physics degree! Hope to see you all there for this wonderful informative workshop! 💻🧌

Stargazing more like star-glazing - its so good! UCC Physoc’s most popular event is back! Next week from the 23rd to the 25th of October, UCC Physics society are headed to Mount Brandon in the glorious Kingdom of Kerry for the first of our biannual stargazing trips! Sign ups are now on the societies portal and be fast as places go quickly and spots are not guaranteed. Tickets will be on sale for €30 and I shall keep you updated on the ticket solve for that. It is a great chance to meet the other years of both physics and miscellaneous courses, to be by the sea, see many stars, have sing songs, a lot of sillyness and perhaps the odd seance. So be cool as a boole and sign up now! 🔭✨🌌

How can you be educated and have a fun time simultaneously? Quantum technology says its both. How can it be both? It can’t but it is, it’s paradoxical and yet, it works! Join us for a talk with one of UCC’s leading researchers in Quantum Technology on Wednesday 7th of October for Professor Alix McCollam’s talk on her research 🔬The talk is open to all and we hope to see you there! 🧌

We want you 👉 How would you like to become a member of UCC’s (subjectively) best society committee and subcommittee! We are electing 2x first year reps for both the Physics and Astronomy Society and EPONA, along with 1x post grad rep for each committee and 1x ordinary committee member for the Physics and Astronomy committee! It is a great way to get more involved in events and meet new people (and probably looks nice on the cv too). Don’t go too far afterwards though, as we will be having a pop-up telescope 🔭 at the Glucksman Green (although this is fairly weather dependent so keep an eye on the story on monday the 5th of october for more info) 🧌

Join us next Monday in Kane G18 at 6:30 pm and hear from other students, past and present about tips, tricks and some other third thing, to navigating physics! 🧌

Are you in first year studying physics? Do you know what coffee spelt backwards is? If so pop down to the first year coffee morning located in the law building on Monday for coffee, tea, biscuits, chats and perhaps some rofl’s! Its a great opportunity to meet your fellow classmates and some of the amazing second years too! Give me coffee and tea, easily. Hope to see you there 🧌
