It was truely wonderful to welcome our third-year nursing students for a session of reflective practice, providing an opportunity to reflect on experiences, shared learning and continue to develop skills and confidence needed for clinical practice.

We were also delighted to welcome back some of our newly qualified nurses who have been successful in securing places on the Graduate Programme, as they prepare to graduate from ATU Wednesday 28th October! 🎓

They took time to meet with our current students to share their experiences and provide valuable insights into the Graduate Programme, offering a glimpse into the exciting opportunities and challenges that lie ahead as they transition from student nurse to registered nurse.

These connections between students, Clinical Placement Coordinators (CPCs) and newly qualified nurses are so important in supporting learning, reflection and professional development throughout the nursing journey.

A huge thank you to our CPCs, Year 3 General coordinator Charlene Bogan and of course our graduate nurses for taking the time to share their knowledge, experiences and advice with our third-year students. 💙

✨ A wonderful milestone in the nursing journey! ✨

Our first-year student nurses have reached the end of their first teaching blocks, having completed their initial theory and practical skills, and are now preparing to take their next exciting step into clinical practice. 🩺

As our new cohort of Mental Health, Intellectual Disability and General Nursing students begin their nursing journey on placement, our fourth-year students will return for their final teaching block as they prepare for the transition from student nurse to registered nurse. 🎓

From those taking their very first steps into nursing to those preparing to qualify, it is a privilege to be part of each student's journey as they develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and compassion needed to provide safe, person-centred care.

Wishing our first years the very best of luck as they begin their placements.

Due to unforseen circumstances the ATU Donegal Letterkenny Campus is closed today Friday 16th October 2026 until further notice.

All classes cancelled today. Apologies for inconvenience caused.

ℹ️ATU Statement Regarding Industrial Action:

Industrial action relating to national pay agreement negotiations is currently taking place across Ireland and is affecting higher education institutions, including Atlantic Technological University (ATU).

ATU has been notified by the TUI, SIPTU, UNITE and FORSA trade unions of planned strike action on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, and Wednesday, 21 October 2026.

If this action proceeds, students should not attend any ATU campus as teaching activities, catering and student support services will not be available on these dates. Should the strike be cancelled, classes will go ahead.

All teaching activity, including both on-campus and online classes, has been cancelled for Wednesday 14 October. Classes will be held as usual on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

➡️ Students should continue to monitor their ATU email and MyATU for updates and further information.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding.

☆ You know much more than you realise, remember your clinical instincts and intution will guide you.

☆ The next 12 months transition from student to intern, to being a qualified nurse takes time, know its okay not to know everything right away.

☆ Most importantly remember to rest, self-care and lean on your support systems, and celebrate how far you have come.
