This National Volunteer Week, we proudly recognise the incredible contribution of Community First Responders across Ireland.

CFR volunteers give their time, skills, and compassion to respond to medical emergencies in their own communities — often arriving in those vital first moments before the National Ambulance Service (NAS)Ambulance Service arrives.

Many of our students began their pre-hospital care journey through CFR groups, and some of our tutors continue to volunteer actively with their local teams. Their dedication reflects the very best of community, service, and lifelong learning.
Thank you to every CFR volunteer for the difference you make — in your communities, in our classrooms, and in the lives of those you help. 💙 CFR Ireland Critical - Emergency Medical Response

A huge thank you to the team at Limerick Fire & Rescue for their time and expertise over the past few months working with the paramedic students in UL.

The collaboration has given students an invaluable insight into the realities of multi-agency emergency response, from incident command and RTCs to hazardous materials, breathing apparatus, patient handling, and the incredible capabilities of the aerial appliance.

Opportunities like this are hugely important in preparing future paramedics for the teamwork and challenges they will face on the road, and the knowledge shared by the crews throughout the programme has been greatly appreciated.

Thanks again to everyone involved for their support and commitment to student learning. We’re very grateful for the partnership and look forward to continuing it in the years ahead.

Great to see this post from the National Ambulance Service (NAS) highlighting recent engagement at Scoil Mhuire, Carrick-on-Suir.

We’re delighted to see one of our Year 1 paramedic students Rebecca involved in supporting the careers fair and promoting the profession to future students.

Paramedic Fiona from Clonmel Ambulance Base, and Rebecca Hunt, a student paramedic from Limerick, recently attended a careers day in Scoil Mhuire, Carrick On Suir, Co. Tipperary.

"This school is an all girls school, and I have been attending their careers day for the past 3 years. When I wanted to join the ambulance service a decade ago, there was very little information regarding recruitment. I love being in a position now where I’m able to represent the ambulance service as a female paramedic, give guidance regarding becoming a paramedic in Ireland and encourage the younger generation of girls to follow their own aspirations." - Fiona
