🏛️ Emergency Medicine Advocacy in Puerto Rico

The decisions made today can shape the care patients receive tomorrow.

Puerto Rico ACEP is committed to advocating for issues that affect emergency departments, emergency physicians, EMS, and the patients we serve.

From access to care to the resources needed to support emergency medicine, advocacy is an important part of strengthening healthcare in Puerto Rico.

We will continue working to bring attention to the needs of our emergency medicine community and the patients who depend on it.

🛡️ Healthcare Workers Deserve Safe Workplaces

Emergency department teams care for patients during some of the most stressful moments of their lives. That does not mean violence or threats should be accepted as part of the job.

A safe workplace supports:
✔️ Better patient care
✔️ Stronger teams
✔️ A healthier work environment
✔️ A safer community

Respect and safety matter—for patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Keep a copy on your phone or in your wallet—and bring it with you to the emergency department.

🚨 Emergency Medicine Myth vs. Fact

Myth: “If I can still walk or talk, it’s not an emergency.”

Fact: Some serious medical conditions may not look severe at first. Chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness, severe allergic reactions, and other concerning symptoms should never be ignored.

When in doubt, seek medical advice. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911. Emergency Physicians in Puerto Rico are there for YOU!
