South Hills School of Business & Technology is a career school with locations in State College, & Altoona, Pennsylvania, that is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). Founders Paul (1930-2013) and Maralyn Mazza created South Hills School of Business & Technology in 1970 when they saw the need for more specialized skills training in central Pennsylvania. Since then, more than 6,000 graduates have earned their degrees and gone on to lead successful careers. Paul and Maralyn believed in “Teaching People, Changing Lives,” a timeless ideal that continues to inspire faculty, staff, and students. 🏆 And the Respiratory Care Week poster contest winner is… Exercise & the Cardiopulmonary System! 🫁🫀

This group took health education to the next level with an interactive presentation showing what happens to the heart and lungs during exercise.

Instead of simply explaining the concepts, they brought them to life! Their presentation included a live walking-pad demonstration so visitors could watch heart rate increase in real time, along with a blood-ejection model comparing cardiac output at rest and during exercise.

Their creativity, preparation, and ability to engage their audience made complicated cardiopulmonary concepts easy to see and understand — exactly the kind of communication our future respiratory therapists will use when educating patients and families.

For first-term RT students, they did an incredible job taking what they have learned so far and turning it into meaningful public education. Their hard work throughout Respiratory Care Week definitely showed!

What a way to wrap up Respiratory Care Week! 🫁🩺

Our first-term RT students spent the week researching, designing, and building educational posters & models on respiratory and cardiopulmonary topics — and today, they put that knowledge into practice by educating the South Hills community.

From asthma and va**ng to exercise, aging, and the respiratory system, students took complex concepts they’ve learned during their very first term and turned them into clear, creative, and engaging presentations for the “public.”

They’ve learned a lot in a short amount of time, and their hard work truly showed today!

These posters were more than a contest — they gave students the opportunity to practice an important part of respiratory care: explaining health information in a way patients and families can understand.

We are so proud of the creativity, teamwork, and confidence they brought to their presentations! 👏

Day 2 of Respiratory Care Week brought creativity, teamwork, and a sweet treat! 🍩

Our RT students spent the morning working in groups to create interactive educational posters focused on important respiratory and cardiopulmonary topics, including va**ng, exercise, heart disease, and more.

Throughout the week, students will continue developing their displays with the goal of making complex health topics easier to understand and helping educate their fellow South Hills students, faculty, and staff.

A little research, a lot of creativity, and donuts definitely helped fuel the process! 💙

Respiratory Care Week kicked off with hands-on learning in the RT Lab! 🫁💙

Students were invited into open lab to ask questions, practice skills, explore respiratory equipment, and review anatomical structures while connecting what they are learning in A&P to real patient care.

For our first-term RT students, it was a great opportunity to see how foundational concepts like airway anatomy, ventilation, and cardiopulmonary structure begin to translate into the skills they will continue building throughout the program.

There was plenty of curiosity, conversation, and hands-on exploration — exactly what Respiratory Care Week is all about!
