Fri Oct 16 (SoE Auditorium, 12-20-11:25pm) Treasures of the Silk Road. Dr. Shayar Daneshgar, musician and scholar, will share knowledge of & perform songs using musical instruments from the Middle East and North Africa. The instruments and songs reflect cultural exchanges & influences along the Silk Road. The instruments are part of the Pastel-Daneshgar collection being exhibited at the IU McCalla Center.

Universidad de Chile, Santiago at IU SoE. On October 6, four scholars from the Universidad de Chile, Santiago, visited the School of Education. They met with Social Studies & Educ History Prof. Keith Barton, exploring the structure & development of U.S. American Studies programs and how these models can be adapted to the Chilean Academic context. The Chilean Scholars consisted of Profs. Bywaters Collado, Dockendorff Valdes, Gamboa Valenzuela, Lopez Varas. They are participants of the U.S. Department of State, International Visitor Leadership Program. IU representatives also included M. Ayllon, S. Walker, K. Cierniak & Jonathan Rojas Valero.
