🎉🌟 Congratulations, Kosuke! Rotary Scholarship Recipient! 🌟🎉

Please join us in celebrating Kosuke from Japan, who is studying Business at Lane Community College and has received a wonderful Rotary scholarship! 🎓👏

Kosuke chose Lane because his goal was to attend the University of Oregon. Along the way, he has worked hard, strengthened his academic skills, and made achievements he can be proud of—including earning a very high grade in his ESL writing class! 📚✨

One of Kosuke’s favorite things about Lane is the kindness and reliability of his professors. Outside the classroom, he enjoys playing badminton and soccer with his friends. ⚽🏸

And his first taste of American food? A burrito! 🌯 Kosuke especially likes burritos filled with beef, cheese, lettuce, and BBQ sauce. Sounds delicious!

Kosuke also shared an interesting insight about Japan: communicating with strangers can feel challenging for Japanese people, even in their own language—and doing so in English can be even more difficult. His experience is a great reminder that studying abroad takes courage, and every student has their own journey as they adjust to a new culture and language. 🌏💚

💚 His advice to future international students?

“Everyone feels nervous to try new things. So, if you feel nervous – it’s normal. Just try!”

What wonderful advice! Taking that first step can open the door to new friendships, opportunities, and accomplishments.

Kosuke, we are so proud of you! Congratulations on receiving your Rotary scholarship, and thank you for being part of our Lane international student community. Keep working toward your goals! 💚🎉

💙🌏 Meet Kanata: Believe in Yourself and Take That First Step!

Meet Kanata from Japan! Kanata is studying Health & Fitness at Lane Community College and preparing to transfer to Oregon State University to study Kinesiology. 🏃‍♂️

When Kanata first came to the U.S., it was his first passport, first international flight, and first time trying airline food!

✈️ He chose Lane because of Oregon’s beautiful nature, peaceful environment, and welcoming, supportive international community.

Now, Kanata is paying that support forward as a Lane Peer Mentor, helping international students adjust to life in the U.S., practice English, connect with others, and get off to a great start — including welcoming new students with Lane’s free airport pickup!

✨ Here are a few things that make Kanata’s Lane experience special:

📚 Earning all A grades in his courses so far! WOW!
⚾ Serving as student assistant coach for Lane’s baseball team, which earned 2nd place in its regional conference!
🤝 Helping new international students feel welcome and confident
🍇Exploring Eugene’s Saturday Market, meeting local vendors, and discovering fresh Oregon produce

Kanata knows what it feels like to be nervous about communicating in English. His own experience inspired him to help others feel comfortable asking questions, making friends, and becoming part of the community.

💬 His advice to future international students?

“Believe in yourself!”

Kanata reminds us that it’s okay to feel nervous or anxious. What matters is taking action, asking for help, and believing you can make your experience a success.

We’re proud to have Kanata as part of the Lane community! 💙

🌲 Ready to take your first step toward studying in the U.S.? Lane is here to help you along the way!
