Happy Faculty Friday! Meet Anna Overton!!
Nursing is a profession that I have always had respect for and was intrigued by. From a young age, I observed my mom working as a nurse, and later on my dad as well. Hearing how they were able to touch people's lives and make a different on someone's hardest day seemed so beautiful to me. So, I knew that I wanted to be a part of this calling, one that is so selfless, meaningful, and impactful. After nursing school, I had the opportunity to work in the ICU during the COVID-19 pandemic, and this concept truly came alive to me. Later on in practice, I discovered that helping future nurses to be both excellent and compassionate was something I was very passionate about. As an educator in the UNA nursing program, I am honored to now have a role that allows me to do this firsthand.
ACONHP is particularly special to me, as I walked through these halls as both an undergraduate and a graduate nursing student. I owe the entirety of my nursing education to this incredible program and its dedicated staff. The professors here stewarded me with utmost care and intentionality, as I strive to do for my own students. This program has the component of excellence that is needed in future nurses, but it also has the heart that will allow them to make a real difference. ACONHP goes above and beyond for the future of nursing, and I am so honored to be a part of it!

Happy Why Wednesday! This week, meet Samantha Norton, a respiratory program student! “Respiratory was not always my first choice but I trusted the Lord to guide my path and took a chance and applied. The Respiratory program has been absolutely fantastic and I’m so incredibly thankful for this program and the staff that works with the students. I always knew that I wanted to work in healthcare but never felt like I had quite found my niche and didn’t feel fulfilled, but I’m so glad that I took a chance and applied for the Respiratory Therapy program here. This has been such a wonderful experience and I’m so grateful for the people I’ve met and the experiences I’ve had in the program. My favorite part about ACONHP would be a tie between working with the other departments in Simulation labs and getting closer with my classmates in clinicals!

Yesterday our OTA students got the chance to showcase their level 1A Fieldwork experiences through professional poster presentations. Students shared their clinical reasoning, evidence-based interventions, reflections, and the impact of occupational therapy in community-based practice.
